Wouldn't you know it. Diary of the Dead is released on Valentine's day and none of the theaters in the Wichita are showing it. Has anyone else seen it yet?

Don't feel bad, dude. It's not showing anywhere here in the greater Little Rock Area, either!

It's probably best that Romero's zombies don't come to Wichita. We have too many windows on our house and not enough plywood to board them up with. The zombies would break in and eat us for dinner in no time.

Yeah, I know the feelings of paranoia that engenders. The house we're currently living in has large windows that in one room go from about a foot above the floor to a foot below the ceiling. Makes me thankful that The Zombie Apocalypse hasn't yet kicked off.

It's still in limited release, here in L.A. Perhaps, this is to let people get home from the mall...

My local Drive-In will be open for business in anothe 3 weeks. If I get lucky, it may be playing there as part of their weekend triple features.

I guess they want people to buy the DVD instead.

I'm hoping that it will perhaps show up at local theaters by this coming Friday. I'd much rather see it in the frakkin' theater than on my TV! Romero Zombies deserve the big screen!

Per the map on this link - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0848557/cinemashowtimes?location=map - the closest it's showing to me is Dallas & Mesquite, TX. That's about a five hour drive. :(

Hey Griff - Thank you for the link - Dont know if I'll drive an hour and a half to see it .. hopefully it'll be closer in full release .. Definately want to see this in the theater ....

I can't believe that it's playing in Olathe Kansas instead of Wichita. That's about 2.5 hours from me. Wichita is a bigger town than Olathe. Why would there be such a limited release? Don't they think that are enough people who will actually want to see it?

Yeah, I thought some of the locations they chose a bit odd, as well. At least you're closer than five hours drive! Of course, I just hate the idea of a limited release like this, period. IIRC, the original Night of the Living Dead didn't have a limited release, did it?

Dang them to heck.... :(

One a semi-related note, I lived in Olathe, KS, when I was a kid. In fact, I went to K thru 1 at... Man... I forget the name of the school. My brother was born there, too.

I don't know how NOTLD was released. I heard about movies like Dawn of the Dead and I Spit On Your Grave and Phantasm when I was still in high school from my buddy. He always watched all the latest horror films back then. That was in the Chicago area where all the movies get aired.

If the weather and roads get beeter one of these weekends, I may make a trip up to Olathe. If not, I'll have to watch the DVD instead.

Hey guys,
Well I took the plunge and drove an hour and a half to Philly and saw Diary of the Dead . I gotta tell you - it was worth it ! Spent alot of $$ tho [ $40 in gas $10 turnpike tolls $20 for tickets and $60 dinner for two - I took my girlfriend ] But even my gf [whos not into zombies or Romero ] liked this film. Romero is still on his game making a creepy , scary movie experience. My gf jumped 5 times and buried her head into my shoulder twice [ doncha just love that ! ] There was just enough gore and gun play to make it satisfying. I'd rank it below Dawn and Day but above Land . I had to go - I realised that I've seen every Romero zombie film in the theater except the original Night. [ I was 2 in '68 ] All in all its a very dark but enjoyable movie.

I envy you your experience, Duff Miver. I hate that it looks as tho I won't be able to see this one in the theater. I got to see Land of the Dead in the theater (twice!) when it came out, but wasn't really in to the Zombie Thing when the Dawn and Day came out - and I wasn't even a year old when Night came out. Looks like Romero fans got screwed on this one and will have to see it on the itty bitty, tiny whiney screen. :(

I just want to say a huge thank you to Roland for posting a heads up at the other board - I'd have never known about this had he not... and to Griff for posting the link to the theaters where it was playing. I hope you guys get to see it at the theater somehow , but if not at least feel good that you helped a fellow fan get to see it there .. A big sincere - THANK YOU !!!!!

Any idea why it is in such limited release?

I wish I knew the answer to that, as well. I don't know if it's a marketing issue or what, but it just strikes me as odd that only the US is listed as getting a Limited Release. If Mr. Romero is trying to "get back to his roots" w/regards to Zombie flicks, why not show it in more theaters? Money issues for advertising?

It makes me frustrated, regadless the resasons. Kinda strikes me as a slap to the face to Romero fans here in The States....

I wonder if it has to do with the Land of the Dead theater attendance result?
