View Full Version : AFX Bodies Question

Call me stupid...I can handle it...but why are the AFX red Ferrari Daytona and the black with yellow Corvette bodies so sought after (so it seems)?

I only ask because I've got one of each and NEVER thought they were anything special. I'm assuming they were produced in limited quantities. Guess I'm just looking for more info. Thanks!

This is NOT meant to be bragging, just matter of fact, there are many people on here who have ALOT more cars than I do so here goes:

I would never claim to be an expert on those 2 cars but just for informational purposes: I have somewhere around 500 slot cars and I've always been a real big fan of afx cars. You know how many of those 2 cars I have? 0! That's right, the big fat goose egg. I can't seem to find those real easily so I would have to assume that those are alot rarer than most of the other stuff out there.

Bob Beers (aka mr aurora) would be the person to ask though as he seems to know the most, has probably the biggest collection I've ever seen, and has most likely been around the longest. I'll email him now and see if he'll take a couple of minutes and post on those 2 cars. His insight is always excellent!

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Xence

Not sure about quantity, but those are pretty hard to find. And when you see them on e-bay, the bidding goes up there. Especially with the corvette. You should see what the blue/white Corvette goes for.....

why are the AFX red Ferrari Daytona and the black with yellow Corvette bodies so sought after

Because they look great and are hard to find.

NEVER thought they were anything special

So... you wouldn't miss them... if they somehow found their way into the collection of someone who thinks that ARE very special????

Did I mention that Hank just setup an auction site on the HTBB? Go up one level and look at the bottom of the forum list.

 You know, I'd be willing to part with the Vette body as I never run/ran it and it just sits in the ol' pit kit. It's never really meant anything to me.

The Daytona however makes for a very good handling body on the M/T chassis. It saw action back in the day and was my primary runner. I suppose if for nothing other than sentimental reasons, I wouldn't give that one up.

Those pics I popped up there aren't of the actual cars I own but the Vette body is in great shape.

I think if Bob updated hi book... both cars would be rated 2's.

The Daytona is generally seen in yellow and the red version is much more rare, particularly examples with the stickers and mirrors intact. Plus, it's a Ferrari for crying out loud -- It SHOULD be red!

The black with yellow Vette is also much less common as you will always see the yellow version with the black stripe.

And yeah, the blue A-Production Vette brings good money. Wish I had a few.

I have the common versions fo both and like them just fine. I might pick up a beater Daytona and shoot it red just because.

Hey people, Long time no post.
The reason those cars are highly sought after and bring a good price is simple. Aurora didn't make many of those versions. Look at all of the Ferrari 512Ms and Porsche 917s that are out there. Common Cars. What you have Ligier Runner are Uncommon Cars.
I know most of us know this but I had to throw my thought in the mix. Randy.

Well Jimmy, that's not going to happen.Bob put this book together as a one time reference guide.Bob was the t-jet and vibe section.I was the AFX and O gauge. There had to be a time when we couldn't wait for anymore cars to come into our collections. Not every car ever made was put into the book but 99% were.It took Bob a lot of hard work and time to do this.I only supplied the cars.Packing about 1,000 cars and making sure they are clean for the photographer was not fun.I actually got the G-plus T-Bird a week after the pictures were done. The red Ferrari would be more difficult to find today but I couldn;t guess on a price.Whatever makes each party happy. It was produced in smaller amounts than some other cars and the mirrors always broke.Although the car is beautiful the damage put a hex on sales..The A/P Corvettes are another story. It's a good one.I have to leave for awhile but I'll be back. Thanks Tom Stumpf

'Scuse me fer buttin' in...but...

Anyway to digitize the Beers Bible?....wink wink....VJ

Couldnt gold mine finds or supplementel info then be Qued up without quite as much aggrevation like trying to upgrade the actual book? Another advantage would be the ability to dual screen when searching auctions or chatting with yer buds about our lil treasures.

Sorry. I can't let go of the Ferrari. Call me sentimental.

If it makes anyone feel any better, it's missing one mirror and all three 16 stickers. I would say it's in very good shape other than those things (which I could easily fix by visiting a couple net sites).

I just replied to a pm from Scott and informed him that due to the interest shown, I was really leaning toward putting it here in the auction area. One thing I didn't mention in the pm is that I honestly don't know what it's worth so I wouldn't know what price to set. I was kinda hoping the auction process would sort that out.

Now, having said all that and seeing reactions from other HT members, I have no problem with selling it outright to Scott but I'm still back to the price to ask. I recently saw one WITH CHASSIS go for $62 on the bay. I'm just selling the body.
