View Full Version : Catching Z's
Hilltop Raceway 02-14-2008, 11:09 PM Any Z car lovers out there??? Here's some of mine. These were all the AFX No. 46 chrome blue version I stripped. The Z cars were molded in different colors of plastic, I guess whatever the factory had left over from a run of other cars, I'm not sure the reason. I'm glad, cause I like the color variations better than the chrome bodies, yuk!!! RM

Scafremon 02-14-2008, 11:23 PM Love the Z
Going to have to get me a few of those once I start collecting cars.
Side Bar: I got to meet Mr K. at the Jay Leno show back in 2003 when the new Z came out. Did you know he personally removed the Fairlady badges from the first Z's that arrived at the LA port, and replaced them with the 240Z badge, knowing that the US folk might not take to the JDM name?
Hilltop Raceway 02-14-2008, 11:55 PM My apologies, the back 4 car in the picture are the original cars.
WesJY 02-15-2008, 12:35 AM they are nice looking cars. i dont even have one of those.

krazcustoms 02-15-2008, 12:54 AM Those are cool. Thanks for sharing.
twolff 02-15-2008, 10:00 AM How'd you strip the chrome w/o nuking the paint/tampos?
Hilltop Raceway 02-15-2008, 10:09 AM Twf, Just drop the bodies in a jar of houshold bleach for about 30 minutes or a little longer. Shake the jar a little. You will see the chrome dissapear. Be sure and take off the front and rear chrome bumpers before dunking!!! The bleach doesn't seem to bother the painted sections. Red plastic seems to be the most common. Look at where the windshield is glued in the 240, you will see the melted tabs and you can tell what color of plastic the body is molded in. Hope this helps.....RM
Slott V 02-15-2008, 03:57 PM Love the Z

I design some OEM accessories for Nissan Canada and have been to their engineering facility a number of times for measuring sessions. In the back of the one garage I was snooping around and found a few mint old Datsun/Nissan's that belong to somebody important there: I snapped a few pictures on that trip back in 2004-
I pulled the skirt up on this beauty and was drooling: (yes that's a first gen 300Z next to it.)

On the other side was this old gem with a first gen 350Z next to it:

bobhch 02-16-2008, 04:07 PM Nice pictures of the AFX Zz Randy! Had a yellow one way back that I stripped but, didn't know how to leave the blue back then...it is gone now. It was always hard to find them as this hidden color under the Chrome secret was known by just enough people to make them a challenge to find.
Those Zs in all those different plastic colors make for a very nice image. Thanks for Sharron.
Oh and Slott V,
Kool pics as well.
