This weeks fun. Got this nifty van body from Big Kevin. Many thanks.

Couldnt resist a little whittling. Slam-on uses an old AFX snappy chassis with narrowed hubs all around and the basket handles shaved down by half. Basket hangers are fabbed from the meaty portion of a t-jet XKE door.

Scribed out all the windows cuz they were molded in solid white. Glass is assorted chunks from the many Woodys I've run through the chipper. Turned the big roof hole into a skylight.

Guts are a green on green with super ll mags. Uses the stock front AFX lead weight as this bod is tail heavy.

May revisit Slam-on later this week and investigate tubbing the rear chassis...she could stand a little more tire out back.

Very clean, Bill. I like them low!
My first thought at reading the header to the thread was Coachs' "Tjet hammer". LOL
I am pleased to see that you have not taken posesion of it....urm.....maybe it would be best if you did because I know you would never use it as such! heh!

The Master at work!!! That's what I like to see!!! I can see that bad boy selling a lot of Snap-On tools at the racetracks. I'm suppose to have one coming from Kevin. Carving makes me nervous, but I may have to try cutting out the windows, cause I likes it. I had thought about making an air vent scoop, to cover that hole on top, paint it silver or make an air-conditioner box. Just a thought...RM

Actually Steve my brain has burnt windings and a warped comm plate.;)
The weird pic is shot through a hole that was in the roof. The green glass makes it look kinda fuzzy so I can see where you might think it was my brain... an underpowered pancake with a hook toothed idler. I believe the hole held a promotional pocket screwdriver. Although I had considered a roof vent scheme as Hilltop suggested; I went with the skylight like the old AFX vans to keep the line smooth. She looks like a loaf of bread already and I couldnt bear to hang a tumor on the lid.

Randy: The winders were pretty aggrevating. First they were line scribed so I had a "no-go" marker. Then a pindrill was used in all the corners to allow the x-acto saw in. Rough cut the bulk out and hand filed just shy of the no go line with a medium bastard file. Then I cleaned them up with the fine file and smoothed things out by hand with 600 wet. I spread it out over three nights so I wouldnt get burnt out or antsy. The wipers were relieved using a fine balsa saw chucked into an old pinvise. I break the 4" blade into 1" pieces and gently saw along. Took five er so minutes aside....ya just gotta be patient and let the blade do it's thing...Slooooowly.:drunk:

Joe: Managed to avoid the hammer on this build....but after whittling out all the winders it was pretty close to the boot stomp on several occassions. The Snappy van is an excellent piece, good quality plastic, excellent detail, and very robust. Almost too thick as you can see in the window frames!

Kevin: Thanks again for the inspiration and the unique body. It has special meaning to me cuz I know for sure I sent two of my Snap-On dealers kids through college! :freak:

Doba: The "peeper" matches my creepy avatar! Really it was the path of least resistence. I'd pretty well used up my USRDA allowance of patience on all the other panes. LOL

OFD: Thanx Dave, This was one of those in-betweener builds that just caught fire and fell together

Doba, I thought I should clarify that this body came with the excellent graphics applied so I cant/wont take credit. I did mummify it in a tape mask when the rough window work and basket hangers were done.

Merely an insurance policy against Murphy's Law. It was just one of those deals. In order to hack in the stuff you'd like to add; you had to tight rope around all the cool things you wanted save. I'm a lot like Jethro Bodine at mealtime when I have a blade or file inhand...ya dont wanna get to close to the cutlery!

When yer whittling along you have time to think. IMHO opinion this body style has some really cool possibilities. Trackside service vehicle, old school milk man truck, paddy wagon, medic truck, swat van, etc...

E. Basil: Thanx for the kind words.
