The snowthrower motor that I have been trying to get going only has only #30 compression. This seems to confirm 30 yr tech's diagnosis of valve /piston problems. Since it only runs for 1-2 minutes and dies with sparks through the muffler that also seems to support the same conclusion.
Thanks for everyones help trying to get it going. I plan to pull the head and see what problems I find.
