OK Guys as a capped tire racer I have no clue about tire truers, So I ask "What's out there and how do you rate them?" I have a Cobra A/C truer and I have a cutter on it I can't identify. It's barrell shaped but is silver and very prickly. It works very very well but I don't know where it came from as it was on the truer when I bought it. Any help would be very appreciated as we are opening an indoor track in about 30 days and I would like to pass this information on to our racers, THANKS!!

If its blueish steel, thats commonly called a dragonskin cutter. It dulls real fast. I had a cobra and found that the sandpaper drums work better. Tower Hobbies I think carries the cobra cutters. The integy auto truers are the best in my opinion. I have a hudy with the sawtooth blade that works real good and is very small.

Here is the cutter that's on your truer:

The A/C cobra or a MaxMod truer is good for a track truer. They don't make the MaxMod's anymore, but you can still find them on here and on eBay from every once in a while.

I have one of those and I replaced the bit. Go to a home depot or lowe's. In the dremel section, there's a reddish color bit that's very similar to the windtunnel.

one of the best and is a work horse is any max mod truer you can find....after that the hudy or the less expensive hudy is the 3racing truer like I have.

In my opinion, the Maxmod is the best for Foams and caps, But the Integy auto truer is the best for foams.

the cobra a/c truer is just as good or even better the the new one's out today,it has more than enough power to cut the hardest foams, the new truers are a little underpowered, and the bit is carbide, should last a lifetime,i used to have one with that exact cutter bit and truer the old bsr triple blues and never had any problems and those
tires were like concrete!!

i just got a maxmod mini (blue case) and it works great. needs a bit of maintenance and oiling on the motor probably, but with the odd "prickly" bit, it cuts nice. take small bits off at a time.. spins true.. and is hearty!

Stay away from the Integy and Rd logigs auto cut they don't work very well. The autocut stopped working after 6 months on both of the ones that I know of here and the bit sucks on them. Not enough power to cut double purple or reds when I need to. I changed the bit to windtunnel and it helped on the cutting. I only bought it because it was small to take with me. My Cobra AC lathe with the tungsten carbide bit is Awesome!!
