Zorro 02-11-2008, 12:25 AM ... not to mention Klute, The French Connection, Marathon Man, All That Jazz, and a few others. Damned good actor, damned good face.
Griffworks 02-11-2008, 12:25 AM Oh, man... That's just sad. He's been one of my favorite actors for years, since before I saw him in Jaws. :(
Guy Schlicter 02-11-2008, 12:37 AM My favorite role he was in was in the first season of Seaquest DSV as Captain Nathan Bridger.Sorry and surprised to hear about his passing Guy S.
PhilipMarlowe 02-11-2008, 01:10 AM Loved him in All That Jazz, Marathon Man, and Klute. He made a lot of less-than-steller movies like 52 Pick-up, Sorceror, The Last Embrace, and Romeo is Bleeding a lot more watchable and interesting.
falcondesigns 02-11-2008, 01:19 AM Just watch him last night in the Punisher, damn.

I really liked him. Great Actor.

Carson Dyle 02-11-2008, 02:08 PM Yeah, this is a sad one.
He was in some FANTASTIC movies.
R.I.P.
John O 02-11-2008, 03:44 PM I think I'll chose to remember his as he was in All That Jazz IMO his best work. He was a hard working guy who was far better than many of the movies he chose to be in.

Ditto. In that film he became Bob Fosse.

Agree.Hard to believe Fosse's first choice was Richard Dreyfuss, Scheider replaced him a couple of weeks into shooting.
casper60 02-11-2008, 04:27 PM One of my favorites when i was a kid..... Blue Thunder
He'll be missed, great actor, and person.
Zorro 02-11-2008, 04:52 PM I think I'll chose to remember his as he was in All That Jazz IMO his best work.

I would agree. And working with Jessica Lange, Ann Reinking, and Sandahl Bergman couldn't have hurt in the inspiration department.

Fosse certainly knew a good pair o' gams when he saw `em.
terryr 02-11-2008, 05:37 PM He was also in the 7-Ups, a sort of cross between Bullitt and French Connection. Liked it years ago, not so much now.

I just saw The 7-Ups for the first time about a year ago and I really liked it a lot. The car chase is one of the best ever. I read somewhere that the end of the car chase was inspired by the accient that took the life of Jayne Mansfield.

terryr 02-12-2008, 12:51 AM [At the end of the chase Roy Scheiders car slides under a semi-trailer.]
When filming the end they wanted to do a test run first, but the brakes failed on the Venture,[a nova clone] and it slide under the trailer. Luckily the stuntdriver ducked, and the camera was rolling. Look close and the car was a very rare 'hatchback' model. Quite unique in 1973.
I thought the chase was a copy of Bullitt.
