Hello to all my fellow R/C racers. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce a form of racing that you may not be familiar with. If you are familiar with this maybe this will entice you into coming out and running with us. For those of you that do run this form of racing with us, chime in and tell everyone how much fun this racing is.
This form of R/C racing is what we call 1/10th scale Nitro Pan racing, or NP for short. The governing body, if you will, has been and is GASCAR.. GASCAR was founded by a group of racers here in Alabama that did not want to run electrics but still wanted to race Oval and 1/10th scale. So out of this desire GASCAR was born.
The man in the drivers seat is Tim Smith, some of you may already know Tim as the “Tech Man from Hell”, he earned this moniker at the 2007 ROAR Oval Nationals held at Carolina R/C Complex in Easley, South Carolina. ROAR invited this class to run with the support from the crew at Carolina R/C Complex and in my eyes was an overwhelming success. Tim earned his title at the race by tearing down the top three engine in the A-Mains. Suffice to say there were no stones unturned, or screws for that matter, in any engine. The top 3 got their engines back in a zip-lock bag of parts.
There are only TWO CLASSES in this form of racing. They are the .09 class and the .12 class. I will not go into the rules for each of the classes here but you may find out the rules by visiting the GASCAR website www.gascarnitroracing.com.
You may also check out the schedule for the GASCAR series on the site as well.
If you enjoyed the “Enduro” races of the 80's and 90's with the pit stops then you will LOVE the racing that is the norm with the GASCAR series. We will run 3 50-Lap qualifiers for starting position in the Mains and then the mains will be run for a MINIMUM of 250 laps with a season finale of a 500 lap event. All of these will include green flag pit stops (personnel permitting) and caution laps.
The rules are fairly easy to adhere to. They are simple and straight-forward without stifling engineering ingenuity.
So far this year I know that the Coyote crew will be out in force and looking to run up front. The challenge is a tall order with the teams of KSG and BANDIT also coming to the races. The competition will be stiff and the action intense.
If this seems like something you would be interested in do not hesitate to use the contact info on the GASCAR site or by contacting me through HT.
Not only do we run the NP class at the GASCAR races but we intvite the 1/4 scale racers and the Electric guys to come out to race with us. These classes will run under QSAC, BRL or ROAR rules depending on the classes that show up.
Look out here for updates on GASCAR here on HT. I will do my best to keep you all informed of any rule changes that come up, series leaders and products that come out for this type of racing.
