View Full Version : custom sprint body for the Bullseye
6victor6 02-10-2008, 12:37 PM I'm wondering who out there can vacuum form a sprint car hood. I'm nearly done with a mold I designed to fit my Bullseye sprint. I'd imagine it could fit other cars as well.. But I did set it up to work nicely with a laydown motor...I can make a fiberglass version but lexan is the way to go.
Tim Mc 02-10-2008, 12:50 PM Call a local sign company. They have formers that can handle all size material. OR, you can build your own!
6victor6 02-10-2008, 12:57 PM Actually, I did build my own.. Just not big enough to accommodate this.. Or hot enough for lexan.. :/
Sign company huh? hmm ..
KnoxMotorsports 02-10-2008, 01:01 PM just recived these pics are u interested Robert
Tim Mc 02-10-2008, 01:05 PM Try this link but think bigger when using the plans. It works well, I have one myself.

Tim Mc 02-10-2008, 01:09 PM If you get one pulled then you can back pour several extra plugs. A sign comapny can pull quite a few on one service. The polycarbonate will work well on sprint bodies also.
Another option to buy plastics that I use....

6victor6 02-10-2008, 01:16 PM I built one almost exactly like it.. But its too small.. And the heat required for lexan is higher than my machine provides.. I've used .030 lexan and it (sort of) works. But no way it'll do .060... Works great with styrene, though.
I really don't think I want to build another machine for this ... I was hoping to find someone who's set up to do this already, I could send him the plug and maybe pop out a few..
I can shop around for a sign company..

Yeah, thats a good idea. Making several at a time..
I was planning on polycarbonate.. lexan.. same thing basically
Are you using .060? I thought that might be a good choice for this.
Thanks
Tim Mc 02-10-2008, 01:43 PM I have used up to .040. If you plan to use .060 then you'll need to build the table in a fashion that has the elements below the plastic. This way the highest amount of heat flows upwards. I don't think you'll have a problem with .060 when forming this way...

Once again you will need to think bigger.
Tim Mc 02-10-2008, 02:03 PM I've been thinking about making replacement nose pieces and quarter panels. I have experienced the tearing/busting of a new body on the first race. It would be nice to replace a fender panel and not have to replace the bodt.

Yeah it would.
I dont know.. Maybe it is time for a bigger machine.. But I get a little sketchy about the oven.. Dont like playing with electricity much.
I'd like to make a complete body set for a sprint car that has a few more curves rather that flat sheets..
Take a peek at this sprinter... I really like that way this one looks and would like to make 1/4 scale parts like this.

Tim Mc 02-10-2008, 04:05 PM Yep, that is a nice body set.
You can try the Sunbeam table top grills like are sold at Walmart. Th elements will already be wired in.
cnccustom 02-11-2008, 06:35 PM Victor we will have a new hood out soon with a Scoop on it also......hopefully in a few weeks........they are being pulled now
6victor6 02-11-2008, 07:12 PM Maybe I should rephrase this....
Can any of you guys pull this part for me or maybe be so kind as to put me in touch with someone who can?
:p
