Sorry if this has been asked 100 times, but I do not have time right now to surf posts.

What are you guys using to clean your tracks. Is there anything I can go buy at the HD or Lowes?

Thanks

We mostly clean our tracks with stuff you can buy at the grocery store or Target, but I don't really have time right now to tell you to use the Search Feature on track cleaning to find all about Windex and WD-40. :o

I used the search feature, and found some great threads on this topic.

As soon as I get time, I will post the links.

Time, it's always about time isn't it. Even being married, having 4 kids and possibly a fifth on the way and working 60+ hrs a week I think I'll have some extra time.

Sorry Aces...you had that one coming. Rough crowd tonight. :p

At least I'll give you an answer though. WD40 is good for that once in a while cleaning to recondition the plastic. I use it once or twice a year.

For regular cleaning, I use Weiman's(sp?) Stainless Steel cleaner sprayed on a rag, or occasionally on a super-fine sanding pad, follwed by a dry cloth. The Weiman's seems to really do well with the track surface too.

As someone else suggested, and this I learned a few years back, Kaboom is great on the rails...one wipe and the rails are golden, it actually seems like you got more power....but be warned to use it very lightly, any excess will creep into the rail slot, react with the metal, and crystalize after a day or two (remember the sugar/water/string trick). If I use this stuff, I moisten a piece of synthetic chamois with it, then wrap it around a block so I'm just hitting the tops of the rails.

Sorry guys, my own fault. I had to clean my bike which used up my spare time for the night. Time to go be with the fam now. Maybe everyone will go to bed early and I can hit the track for an hour. Have to be back at work @ 4:30 tomorrow morning, the track is worth sacraficing a little sleep though.

Well, I used the baby wipes we have, but my wife buys the cheepees because we go through so many. They did not hold up well when going across track junctions. I had to vacuum the track afterwards because of all the pieces that tore off. maybe I'll have her get me a pack of the better ones, but fornow, it's windex and a baby cloth diaper (I use them to polish my bike already, shhhhhhhhhhhhh, the wife doesn't know that);)

Sorry about that. Idon't know what brand I had, it was a better one, likely bought on sale. I didn't have that problem. Sorry. And I won't tell about the cloth diapers. Dave

Am I the only one that licks his track?

For the heavy cleaning I use a Railroad product called "Railbright"
I pour a bit from the bottle on an old washcloth (supposedly lint free) and wipe'r down. It flashes of quickly enough. Then i gige the whole track a "once-over" with the dry swiffer/sweeper. It is amazing how much crud that deely picks up!

I will try the baby wipes, too, hey!
