Though this is from the upgrade thread. I thought it would be better to move it to another thread instead of clogging that one with something unrelated.
I understand.... I still use Win2K on one of my computers.... most stable Windows version to date. But again I have to watch on that computer what I run as many newer program won't run on it. Glad we found a solution for you.

Does Win2k have the newer file stucture?
I've thought of upgrading to XP Pro as I would really like to be able to use larger hard drives (one of the few limitations of Win98 that agrivates me).
But there are a few things I just can't stand about XP. Like not being able to access any other profile while being within any profile. (or whatever they are called in XP)
Like if I am troubleshooting something in my daughter's profile, and I need a tool or link that is in my profile, I can just get it through windows explorer.
I know from experience on trying to fix my mother's computer that XP won't allow things like that. You can't use explorere to see what people have on their desktop, in their start menu, in their favorites folder, etc. Which is a major pain, and makes a lot of things way too cumbersome for my tastes.

It uses NTFS. Think the HD limit with W2K the latest SP installed is 2T. W2K is more like NT then Win95/8.

Thanks Hankster.
I think I will do a little more research into Win2000.

Might be time for an upgrade finally.
Would be nice to be able to use the full capacity of my hard drive.
Win98 only recognizes so much of it. And if I put too much in the one partition it causes problems that really aren't very fun.

Yeah, the FAT file system does have limits that are pretty low by todays standards. Not sure you'l be able to find usable copies of W2K as it is pretty old too.

Well, FAT32 isn't really the problem.
It's the wall that Win98 hits. And there is no work-around.
Trust me, I have checked into it several times.
Doesn't matter how many partitions you use, the OS will only recognize so much hard drive space.

As for finding W2K to use.
I am sure I won't have a problem.
If I decide to go that route. I have lots of friends online. One or more of them are bound to have a legit disc they would be willing to send me.

Why wouldn't I say that.
It is the truth.
As it turns out, one of my daughter's friends still had it on disc.
Her parents upgraded to XP years ago, and had no use for it anymore.
So I got the box, the disc, and the manual.

Thinking of making the switch this weekend.
