When it comes to making car bodies, what mold material works best for you guys? the folks at at Smooth on seem very helpful but at the same time they are not really helping me come to a decision. I think I want "smooth cast 300" for resin and "mold max 27t" I have cut thousands of molds for the jewelry industry. But those were injected with hot wax under pressure, never cold poured so this is some new territory for me. your suggestions would be very helpful.

Thank you
Mike

I like the oomoo 25 because of the 90 min cure time. I like the 300 because of the quick demold time however I have not tried their 300Q. Also look at the The bottles that the Smoothcast come in are wide mouthed and a pain to work with. Smoothcast is good but buy a pair of catchup bottles or similar with tips and caps. Smooth-on has a starter kit try it first and see how you like it. It comes with oomoo 30 which is a 6 hour cure time. I use MicroMarks CR-300 because I like their bottles.

I use MicroMarks resin as I like the way it is packaged.

Thanks Roger,

This information will be of great help. I just bought the smooth on starter kit and will keep these tips in mind for next time.

I tried that OOMOO mold material once. Its easy to mix and work with but its tear factor is for crap. Usually Alumilite's mold material is easy to come by, mixes up easy and while its tear factor isnt great, its still fairly durable. I only do 2-part molds so tear factor is a big deal to me.
