View Full Version : lost top end after 1min
jlfx car audio 02-06-2008, 07:41 PM i race carpet oval TC with a xray t1fk04 with a 17.5/novak esc with some new 4600 promatch 6cell packs charged @ 7amps they are peaking about
9.2v. well anyways the packs come off the charger 1-2min befor the race so they are still warm. i am running a 50-54mm role out.
now i can tell you my situation, for about the first 5-10 laps and this car is a rocket (3.8 lap compaired to 4.0 for the brushed) (i have the only BL in the TC class) but after the first laps the car will drop off to around 4.2 for the most and will run a 4.1 at best. after 5:00 it comes off the track @ 145-155deg and it does this with avery battery i own new and 1year old packs (the newer packs are faster though by 1/10 sec lapon avg. is this normal for a brushed motor to fall off like this or is it my batts ? buy the end of a clean race i am down 4 laps !
Stratus54 02-07-2008, 01:38 AM If all your packs do the same thing its probably your gearing or the motor.
Are your sure its only 150 after a run... could your temp gun be off or maybe your temping the wrong spot? It sounds like your overgeared and the motor is getting hot and falling off... or maybe the rotor has been overheated and lost its strength or just weak from the factory.
Easiest thing would be to drop a couple of teeth and try it.
jlfx car audio 02-07-2008, 08:45 AM it has done it for 4 races strait i started out with a 49 and every heat went up 1 tooth and the car got faster up untill the main i was running a 53 and it wasnt no faster than the 52 gear i checked the entire motor with a temp gun and the hottest reading was on the top edge of the purple stripe it was reading 153 and the rest was about 133 but it did varry
98Ron 02-07-2008, 12:51 PM Consider your tranmitter, last year I had a traveling buddy that had a similair problem, he was running 19t and about 2 minutes in his car would drop about .3 seconds per lap. We tried everything but no improvement. We changed the transmitter and bam life was good. The throttle pot can go bad, check and make sure at the end of your run that the speed control full throttle lamp comes on when you pull the throttle full on. just a thought.
jlfx car audio 02-07-2008, 09:12 PM unknowingly i have eliminated that problem (or will have in about 1-2 weeks)i have a new DX3R on its way but i dont think that was my problem but again i never checked either any other suggestions
GILYHANTREE 02-09-2008, 02:37 AM unknowingly i have eliminated that problem (or will have in about 1-2 weeks)i have a new DX3R on its way but i dont think that was my problem but again i never checked either any other suggestionsguessing it is car setup!!! thats is about all that will get you down 4 laps if all other stuff is new!!!!
jlfx car audio 02-09-2008, 02:24 PM well....how would the setup affect the speed on a strait if you dont hit the wall betwen the fast laps /slower laps? it seems like a tx problem but it did reach full throttle at l.east it did when i checked it i wonder if the esc cuts back power wonce the motor gets to a curtain temp ,or when it sences something out of its peramiters maby because of my tall gears the esc is cutting back because of amperage demands it thinks something is wrong?
jdearhart 02-09-2008, 10:25 PM Which Novak speedo? If it has Lipo cutoff, that may be your problem. You may be dipping below the cutoff voltage? I don't know about the Novak unit, but with the LRP TC Sphere you can cut the lipo protection off.
jlfx car audio 02-09-2008, 11:30 PM it is the GTB w/ no lipo i have ran my batts down to 1/2 its normal speed anyways the pack would drop it the 1st 1min i guess it is probable the pack loosing its peak up front
GILYHANTREE 02-11-2008, 10:54 PM well....how would the setup affect the speed on a strait if you dont hit the wall betwen the fast laps /slower laps? it seems like a tx problem but it did reach full throttle at l.east it did when i checked it i wonder if the esc cuts back power wonce the motor gets to a curtain temp ,or when it sences something out of its peramiters maby because of my tall gears the esc is cutting back because of amperage demands it thinks something is wrong?you said after 5 or 10 laps that is what it does. that is about what any car that is setup incorrect or geared wrong will do it aint hard to miss the setup or gearing at that track and go 4 laps down also tire choice can do it. kent can fix you up i aint going to be up this weekend maybe the next though. i have seen it many times may not be your problem but i would think it is
jlfx car audio 02-12-2008, 10:21 AM well i am running the same tires everyone else is running and setup is a little off the wall but it seems to work, just courious ,but if the car is fast for 10 laps why wouldnt it be fast the rest of the laps if it was setup only? i am thinking it is either/both, gearing, traction.
last season i washed my tires between every heat and didnt use compound and it was fast and predictable this year i havnt washed my tires and have been using gack the gripper i wonder if i could be tire temp ? i am sure my gearing is probably off i realy didnt get a good feal of the motor being the first 17.5 at the track
We'll get it going this weekend. Just stop over and we'll look at it.
jlfx car audio 02-12-2008, 07:19 PM again... thanks TS
jlfx car audio 02-18-2008, 09:58 PM well i have this weekends updates
i freed up the front hinge pins
and changed trackson compound from paragon to jack the gripper
and after rethinking the gearing
last race ended up with a 53mm roalout
this week i started with a 49 and buy the main i was running a 55mm RO
and think i could go bigger
it didnt run the 3.86s that it did last race but it did run a consistant 4.0 (driver permiting) diped down into the 3.9s a couple of laps
so i guess it was the setup car still has more punch than all the brushed cars did:dude:
it even has more in it i think
