who needs one. the CW solid took down the win in 10.5 plus was like .12 off tq in open mod.

hands down this car rocks. no need for a new design just a change in set up.

I have been struggling to get a good 10.5 set up for my driving style well I can say that there are 2 great set ups for this car 1 is Arnie's ovalmasters set up and 2 is Steve Salvas set up he posted on the old thread. here's the link http://www.tqcells.com/images/Salvas-Maximus-10-5.pdf

I have a newer kit and the only changes that have been made is that there is a new hole for the center shock that allows you to move it forward one hole. imop that helped alot.

Can you explain what you mean by move "it" forward?

cneyedog
02-06-2008, 06:27 PM
Center shock tower anchor block hole is moved forward, lets you put the center shock toward the front of the car....... should give you more steering

davepull
02-06-2008, 06:29 PM
the first chassis had only 2 holes the the center shock can be mounted in. the new chassis now has 4 holes which allows the shock mount to be mounted in the original location (all the way forward) middle and back

Currently there is no change planned for the slider or soild chassis CustomWorks currently offers. Other than widening battery slots, nothing has changed on our chassis since their inception 4 years ago. (if that is considered a change)

We feel a responsiblity to offer a consistant product line, not change simply for fashion or to claim something "new". Also when a change is made, it must be supported. We don't hold a sheet of carbon up and shoot holes at it so that we have options wherever need be.

In regards to the non-CW chassis at the Birds...With the exception of the KSG front slugs, we can offer our current chassis with the half offset t-bar holes and the front shock mount options. I will look into working these and other options into our parts in the near future.

Tuftiger: Working on gathering in all the set-up sheets, hope to have them posted sometime next week.

For starters, give the one from Greenville, TN a try. Even though it was for a 10.5 car, I have heard others say it works well regardless.

Only put tire dope on the inner half of the front tire.

We are using Jack for Compound and last week we only treated the inner half of the front.

I had basically your Greenville setup but could not get the car to turn in enough, we are switching from a 02 Chevy to the THD, hopefully that will help.

The ice in turns 3&4 now has a "Groove" but will still bite you in the butt!

James Stroud stopped by the track last week and I let him run about 30 laps, he liked the car.

Ok with what your saying on the shock mount location, you just move it forward one hole on the chassis? Doesnt that affect your pod droop? Do you have to lengthen the center shock?

Thanks for the input, I also have the new chassis and the shock is in the front position and shock length 3.15

Hopefully the THD and some minor adjustments will help

We are the lone CW at Rosewood, there is ton of KSG, Silva and HD. I want to put the CW up front. I wrench and my 30 year old son drives. Last week was the first race in the 17.5 class. If I can keep my son (Iceman man) off the ice we should do pretty good

Sorry man I screwed up. the new chassis has 4 holes for the center shock mount. I don't know why, but when I built my new kit I had the shock in the middle position. I ran the car like that. then I put Steve Salvas set up in my car and I couldn't get the shock lenth right so I was like duhh move the shock mount forward. which turns out to be the original location .

but everything else that Cdog and I has been true. moving the shock mount forward gives streering and when you do move the mount shock lenth changes.

lol sorry guys. :wave:can I get a mulligan?

Abdule: Thanks for the kind words, TPS still feels like only a couple years ago...

Tuftiger: You will like the T-HD no doubt. The Monte Carlo is still a great body, somehow the T-HD is a tick better on the flat track.

As for tires....BSR single pinks and a team purple RF may be too soft all around on a 17.5 car, esp if you are running a wing. Its nothing thats going to keep you off pace however. In the future if you can try a set of double pinks and a double purple BSR that might be a bit better (roll freeier). Or 3 JACO pinks and a purple RF would work too.

Thanks for the tire data, I found out the hard way that the BSR Pink and Team Purple were too soft, we chased the tire setup all day yesterday. It was only the 2nd time we had run the chassis so we still have a lot to learn, we took 3rd in the 17.5 and ended up running without a wing.

I bought a used Agressor last week of HT as a backup car, I really had not looked at it too close as I was working on the new chassis. I stuck a motor and ESC in it and planned to practice with it. When we got to the track yesterday, my son loaned the backup car to one of his friends to run in 17.5 We ended up chassing that damn car all night! Long story-short, he won the main and TQ. The car was like it was on a rail.

I looked at it closely this morning and it appears to be an 2006 chassis but there are 3 sets of holes to mount the T-Plate and the T-Plate was mounted in the center set. Being new to CW I did not know if this was an optional chassis or was modified by the previous owner? All I know is that it really handled.

Thanks

Paul, glad to see the back-up car is working for you. The extra set of holes is to mount the t-plate between the original mounting options and seems to make the car settle down in the middle of the turns. My team mate ran that car in 17.5 and it was a rocket ship at our track with that set-up. I dont know if anyone is offering a jig set that allows you to drill those holes, I borrowed a jig from someone and drilled the holes myself. You could always line that chassis up with your other car and drill from that as a template. Keep in mind the center shock tower needs a new set of holes as well as the
rear shock brace. Good luck and gald you like the car, Dale.

Dale, thanks for clearing that up. You can rest assured your car is no longer a "Back Up" I don't want to ever have to chase that car again. lol On the way home last night I was saying to myself that I was going to copy the setup to my other chassis.

I switched to a Leading edge hangman for now. I had 4 CW cars over the past 2 years and they were awsome. I just felt it was time to change it up. I have no ties to any one chassis company so I can search and decide which is best for me. I have basically ran all the top mfgs. cars over the past 16 years and CW's rank among the best. Time will tell if I switch back. Good Luck,Dale.

Quick question regarding the slider chassis. How big of an effect does it have on the car when you lead/trail the LF suspension on the car? Does it make a huge difference in the car through the corner, or is it just a minor "feel" thing?

check the old thread Eric Salavs (aka Cal notin Jr) said it was the amount of force it takes to move the spring

I set mine by adding shims in the lf rf till the spring requires about .020 compression tom get the e clip on then set the car race ready and check sag. then usually add shims to the lf about .030
