View Full Version : Offroad Carpet Track At Classic Hobbies
General 02-03-2008, 01:45 AM JUST TO LET YOU ALL KNOW, WE ARE PUTTING IN A OFFROAD CARPET TRACK AT CLASSIC HOBBIES. WE HAD THE ONROAD, AND THERE JUST WASN'T THE INTEREST THAT I THOUGHT WOULD BE THERE, SO CHANGE OF PLANS. I'VE BEEN LOOKING AT ALOT OF THE TRACKS AND HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE SHOWING UP AND I THINK WE CAN HAVE SOME REALLY BIG TURNOUTS BECAUSE OF THE FOLLOWINGS WE ALL READY HAVE AND THE SPACE WE HAVE TO DO IT IN, SO BE PREPARED IT'S COMING AND I WILL KEEP YOU INFORMED OF THE PROGRESS. AND ALSO DON'T FORGET IN ABOUT THREE WEEKS WE WILL START BRINGING IN THE DIRT FOR THE OUTSIDE TRACKS SO YOU WILL SEE HOW THAT IS GOING EVERY WEEK, AND FEEL FREE TO EXPRESS YOU OPINIONS AND IDEAS WHILE YOU ARE THERE. THANKS FOR LISTING .
STEVE :woohoo:
NatalieMorgan 02-03-2008, 01:03 PM That sounds like it would be a riot! You definately have the space to set up a sweet track!
SKEEMCIRE 02-04-2008, 08:50 PM To my knowledge all the local offroad tracks are dirt. I'm not so sure how much interest you could draw with a carpet offroad. Offroad guys are such because they like playing in the dirt.
Griffin 02-04-2008, 09:24 PM Would it be indoor like ozite? or outdoor with turf like uk style?
either way I would come try it..
NickRummy 02-05-2008, 12:31 PM I'd give it a go also....
Hangtime 02-05-2008, 04:06 PM I could run my 18t. I would not want to change my setup in 2wd.
ccm399 02-05-2008, 07:51 PM Hey Rick...how are ya?!
I might come out and give Carpet a try. 2wd MOD buggy.
General 02-05-2008, 08:33 PM Off road carpet is becoming the new trend because of the economy and just the overall costs. It is alot easier to get the racers needed because you only need to spend a couple hundred verses a couple thousand. I am going to make some really cool bumps and jumps, and a big wall climb to keep all the racers on their toes and to keep you coming back for more. We will have three classes for sure and maybe four, stock out of the box except foam tires, super stock, and mod. There have been some really good turn outs at some other tracks because the over all costs are very low compared to what we are all spending right now. I'm going to start building it tomarrow and i should be done by this weekend. If all goes as planned opening day will be Sun, i will keep you all posted.
NatalieMorgan 02-05-2008, 10:29 PM I know that Michiana RC is running 1/10th scale indoors and it doesnt look like they have near the room that Steve has.
www.michianarc.com
will you be running 4wd mod?
General 02-05-2008, 11:19 PM yes, we have three classes so far, stock, super stock, and mod
pink_sleeve 02-05-2008, 11:24 PM yes, we have three classes so far, stock, super stock, and mod
are you gonna run mod 2wheel, truck, and 4wheel all together :freak:
General 02-05-2008, 11:30 PM It all depends on who all shows. If we have enough for both classes we'll run both, if we don't we run one if everybody agrees. I'm sure we will get more racers each week as the word gets out. Keep in mind there will be 18th scale and 10th scale.
Hangtime 02-06-2008, 12:21 AM Hey Rick...how are ya?!
I might come out and give Carpet a try. 2wd MOD buggy.
Hi Chris, Nice to hear from you. You would put a carpet setup on your, what was it--tamiya buggy? Not sure if i would, but then again I do have the mamba max 6900 w/ lipo in mine. :freak: I guess that would be Mod. lol
where could we get foam tires and what coumpound would be need for the track? also what traction coumpound works best on your track?
General 02-06-2008, 09:53 AM I can get you the foam tires and we have jack the gripper in stock ,it is what we all use.
Scott54 02-06-2008, 11:23 PM I think foam tires would just crumble in a carpet/offroad setting. I've raced at Erie RC and it's an offroad carpet track and we ran losi pink compound.
sloppy 02-07-2008, 01:57 PM you must be runnin some crusty old foams. I have been running them on my mini t and rc-18 and the hold up fine. heck they probally last longer then rubber tires do.
ICEMAN96 02-07-2008, 03:54 PM So What Is The Popular 1/18th Buggy Or Truggy.
NatalieMorgan 02-07-2008, 07:16 PM I think 18t's are gonna be the hot ticket here. Steve just about finished the first half pipe wall climb today, its gonna be a blast!!!!!!!!
covell2 02-07-2008, 07:40 PM any pics? is this the place on waterloo?
General 02-07-2008, 09:27 PM Yes, its the place on Waterloo Rd. Tomarrow i will snap some pics. and have them posted so everyone can check out the new track as its being built.
sloppy 02-07-2008, 11:57 PM 18t's will more then likely dominate that or kyosho they are pretty competitive as well, theres also the durtrax vendeta they are fast as heck.
mini t's are a blast and if you can run them with other 2wds they do great but just have a hard time hanging with the 4wd's. I think mini t's are a little tuffer though I have put mine threw heck and back. rc 18 just wont take that.
dont forget about the monster class there is the mini lst the kyosho truggy, and couple others out there. and you can run touring car foams on all of them and it doesnt hurt there COG like the little guys.
Hangtime 02-08-2008, 10:02 AM I've seen these carpet offroad tracks on the web & always wanted to run one. Half pipe wall climb!! Cool. :woohoo:
I like dirt & all, but it will be nice to run my 18t & not fuss with stones in the gears. I can break out the good chassis. I'll drop the Tekin B1 & stock motor in it to start. :)

ProSport 02-08-2008, 09:52 PM This is great to hear, we raced the carpet oval a couple years ago and didn't have time for it anymore so we picked up a 1/10 scale off road 2WD truck to play with. We didn't even know Classic Hobbies was gonna have an offroad track. Are you gonna race 1/10 scale there? When can we stop by and check out the track?
BDDelbert2 02-09-2008, 08:36 AM
Good luck with your off-road venture. One thing to consider is the landing areas of the jumps. Hate to see they new carpet tore up from chassis' bottoming out on landing. Might need to place extra pieces of carpet in those spots. Just an idea.
Great place by the way. Really enjoyed running there last week.
Take care,
Dale Steele
General 02-10-2008, 01:39 AM Well people the track will be ready for it's first race this Fri. Sorry I haven't got the pics on here yet, just have alot going on. Minit76 02-13-2008, 06:48 PM Any pictures of what we might expect in the way of jumps, bumps, or whatever else might be in store for us?
todddye 02-13-2008, 10:03 PM I stopped down there tonight and I gotta say that the track looks like its going to be an absolute blast.
General 02-14-2008, 12:04 AM hey guys, sorry i haven't been on here with the pics. I 've taken alot of them but i left the cam at the shop, but so far we got the 6'by 12' wall climb,we've got 6 jumps and 12' of bumps ,and a couple extra for some cornering. It's gonna be great, tomarrow the carpet will be installed and i will snap some more shots and get them on here so you will know what to prepare for.
Steve:woohoo:
sloppy 02-14-2008, 02:26 AM humm this friday I will see what I can get ready  what are the class's or is it gonna be the normal mini mayhem?
Kyosho Racer 02-14-2008, 06:07 PM I was there wednesday and the track looked great. See you all friday night!
Jeff
General 02-15-2008, 12:33 AM here are some of the pics, i don't have the track set up yet , but it will be set up before you guys get there tomarrow. we did some tryouts on it tonight and the cars was hooking up without the carpet on the ramps so i'm going to try that and you can tell me what you think. I will chang the track as needed , and add more as we go along. thanks
steve
sorry guys, i tried to put the pics on ,it says i cant they exceed the limits
NatalieMorgan 02-15-2008, 12:58 AM Steve the track looks awesome! Cant wait to get some air off those jumps!!
Kyosho Racer 02-15-2008, 10:56 PM I just ran at Classic Hobbies off-road indoor tonight and had a blast! The track is coming along good and the pit area is laid out great. We just need more racers. Steve is doing a good job.
Jeff
Hangtime 02-15-2008, 11:21 PM Want to come out. Just ordered some gear for my 18t. :) Can't decide stock or mod. Any rules we should know about or the usual?
HT
sloppy 02-15-2008, 11:29 PM I had fun tonight seems like that has been happening every time I come to classic so you must be doing something right keep it up.
I got to get some new batteries so I can clear a jump though. :freak:
and next time I wont forget my radio for my micro T .
hang time: if you are gonna run MOD that is what I want to do to. I dont want to play with NIMH or brushed motor's in these either. i pulled the brushless out I would love to put it back and get a lipo pack for it. :woohoo:
covell2 02-16-2008, 09:07 AM so are you guys running 10th scale or is just a mini style course?
sloppy 02-16-2008, 10:20 AM so far just mini's. and it's not my call but I think mild 1/10 scale could be done in there and be fun.. I dont think you could run much more then stock on the course and still have fun and not tear stuff up. the track is plenty big enough for 1/10 scale but the jumps are more mini style.

I think I'll pick up a lipo for it. Doesn't everyone have a Mamba???:)
covell2 02-16-2008, 03:45 PM when is the next time you guys will be running?
Kyosho Racer 02-16-2008, 09:30 PM I think friday night around 6:00 pm.
Jeff
General 02-17-2008, 01:13 AM yes, Fri. the doors open at 4:00 and the racin starts at 6:00. This Fri . it's lookin like were gonna get close to 15 racers, maybe more. I set a little part of the track tonight after the oval course and the guy's loved it. This week I'm going to stiffen up the ramps and ad the carpet so we can also run the 1/10 scale. Give me some feed back and I'll try to work with everybody so it's fun for everyone. Thanks, Steve:thumbsup:
ccm399 02-17-2008, 11:31 AM Sounds like you guys are heading in the right direction. I talked to a couple buddies of mine and they are thinking about the mini off road deal.
One question though...do you plan on running the indoor carpet track on Friday nights during the summer?
Thanks,
Chris
General 02-17-2008, 12:57 PM I'm going to start putting in an offroad track outside in a few weeks ,and we will be able to run outside and inside.
Kyosho Racer 02-17-2008, 05:43 PM Hey Steve,
I just talked to a friend of mine and he might stop in Friday night to see the track and maybe buy and run a 18T.
Jeff
ccm399 02-17-2008, 06:59 PM I'm going to start putting in an offroad track outside in a few weeks ,and we will be able to run outside and inside.
Very cool.
So if I was to tell the guys I was talking to that there will be indoor carpet off road racing year round that would be accurate? SOunds like it but i just wanted to be sure.
Jeff you wouldn't happen to be talking about David would you? Did you get to run your RB5 at the track?
Kyosho Racer 02-17-2008, 09:22 PM Hey Chris,
Yes, I was talking about Dave. He hasn't got a car yet but wants to come down Friday and check the track out. No, I just ran a stock 18T. I still need to pick up a maxamps lipo battery an balancer for the RB5.
Jeff
ccm399 02-17-2008, 09:28 PM Jeff I would pick up a Track Power 5400 and balancer if I were you. The cases are gold colored which I am not a fan of but Parma (or another company) makes Carbon Fibre sticker material.
So where most cars 4wd or 2wd?
