View Full Version : O/T -- The new Dodge Challenger 1976Cordoba 02-02-2008, 09:04 PM Saw this elsewhere: http://dodgechallengercountdown.com/ Just a couple more days. :woohoo: noddaz 02-02-2008, 11:19 PM I would rather see a Cuda... lol Scott micyou03 02-02-2008, 11:20 PM If it actually looks like that, it will be the best retro yet! twolff 02-02-2008, 11:36 PM Anyone know what it's going to sticker at? This is the first car I've seen in a long time that I want AND might actually be able to afford. roadrner 02-03-2008, 12:28 AM Looks close and I wouldn't mind having one, but I'll wait for a real one. Now I just have to convince the track manager! :) Is hell supposed to freeze over soon? :freak: rr AfxToo 02-03-2008, 12:38 AM Anyone know what it's going to sticker at? Starting at around $38K and going up into the $50s... Retro nostalgia has a price... roadrner 02-03-2008, 12:54 AM Starting at around $38K and going up into the $50s... Retro nostalgia has a price... Guess they don't want to sell to many of these. They should have looked a little closer at Ford's pricing strategy with the retro Mustang. As many of those that I see on the road, It has to be one of their top sellers. rr AfxToo 02-03-2008, 08:55 AM That's for the initial run of SRT8s. They will probably build lesser equipped models for less money. Here's an interesting article about people paying 20K plus above MSRP: http://money.cnn.com/2007/12/06/autos/challenger_over_sticker/index.htm I'm holding out for the '09 model which will have a 6-speed MANual transmission option and horsepower over 450. This type of car with an auto, egad, not a chance. 1976Cordoba 02-03-2008, 11:14 AM . . . I'm really happy with my 2000 T/A WS6 but yeah a 450HP Challenger would be awesome, particularly if they could do a sunroof option. LeeRoy98 02-03-2008, 12:00 PM Check out the 43rd edition which will be painted Petty blue and auctioned on ebay for charity: http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/23/43rd-2008-dodge-challenger-srt8-to-be-painted-petty-blue-and-a/ fastlap 02-03-2008, 12:36 PM Guess they don't want to sell to many of these. The $37,995 suggested price tag is for the initial SRT8's with the 6.1L Hemi and that includes the freight and advertising charges. The plan is to produce 5000 for the initial '08 run. For the '09 run starting in the fall, you will see R/T's with the 5.7L Hemi and a SXT models with the 3.5L six banger. These will be appropriately priced to be competitive. AND YES!!!! The manual trans is coming which will be my choice. And, in the '09 run you will see the colors that have been on the Charger so far. (btw, i've worked for chrysler dealers since '78) Pete McKay 02-03-2008, 02:27 PM If they build an AAR version I will come...otherwise give me a Shelby. Bill Hall 02-03-2008, 03:24 PM Looks close and I wouldn't mind having one, but I'll wait for a real one. Now I just have to convince the track manager! :) Is hell supposed to freeze over soon? :freak: rr Good luck with that Dave. Should hell freeze over please bottle some up and post it in swap and sell. Put me down for a case of it. No doubt a fully loaded version with all the "git with it options" will exceed half of what I paid for my first home. ...and to think some of us pushed the originals off into the brush during the first fuel embargos...irony and punishment have come full circle. grungerockjeepe 02-04-2008, 08:33 PM Chrysler has a similar format coming your way, so let's not jump on the "Bash Chrysler" marketing wagon just yet. I was a bit bunged up too when I saw the 6.1/auto only for megabucks initial realease. When the R/Ts with the 5.7 and pistol grip 6 spd is released that might well be my first brand new car if things keep going the way they are with my job. Gimme that bright blue with the black leather interior and some torque thrust D's with the black spokes and polished rims please... AfxToo 02-04-2008, 10:45 PM Yeah, the first run is competing on the higher end and you'll also have to shell out an extra $2000 gas guzzler tax to boot. The price of the Challenger is comparable to the SRT8 versions of the 300, Magnum, Charger, and Jeep. The 5.7L, 6-speed Challenger should start in the mid to upper 20s if they keep the pricing comparable to the other Mopars in that class. I wouldn't be shocked to see a $32K price on a well equipped model. The Mustang GT is still a fabulous bargain all things considered. I'd rather see an indy rear end on it instead of the solid axle, but it has all the right stuff to qualify as a bona fide muscle car. The wild card in this mix is the new Camaro. We should be seeing the spec sheet on it real soon. I still wish GM had reserved the GTO brand for something more befitting the name, in a retro design sense. Nothing against the performance of the current model, but just imagine what GM could do if it took a cue from the retro redesigners and give us a new version of the '69 GTO Judge. Now, that would be something to see. bumpercar88 02-05-2008, 04:41 PM "The Mustang GT is still a fabulous bargain all things considered. The Mustang has always been a great bang for the buck which is why I have 2 F-bodies. Isn't the Challenger a bit pricey? I guess that GM and Mopar aren't making cars for the working stiff. I realize that Rousch, Shelby, Saleen, etc. can run over 50K, however Ford released the 6 cylinder and the GT to the public before releasing cars to the modifiers. rodstrguy 02-05-2008, 05:12 PM $37,000 and change, add to that what the dealers are going to add to get you one and not many will be sold. Price 'em so people will buy them, mandate no obscene dealer mark-ups and they will sell. I looked at Saturn Sky Red-lines and Pontiac Solstece gpx and was amazed by some dealers adding $5000 to the prices. They wonder why they do not sell fast or more. And it's not just GM dealers doing this crap, the Ford dealer in town was doing the same on Mustangs, $6,000 for V-8 cars and $3000 for v-6 cars. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
