In 1980 the works Porsche team did not comprise the usual Group 6 prototypes, but three cars loosely based on the relatively humble Porsche 924, and entered in the GTP class. The extended wheelarches of the cars hinted at the styling of the forthcoming 944, although, there was a roadgoing 924 Carrera GT - I remember seeing it in CAR magazine, with the Carrera script written on top of the lefthand side front wing.

The three cars were liveried with the flags of the UK, USA & Germany. The #4, driven by Jurgen Barth & Manfred Schurti came home in 6th place overall, the #2 of Andy Rouse / Tony Dron finished 12th just ahead of the #3 of Al Holbert / Derek Bell (not sure about his American roots!) in 13th. The race was won by the Rondeau M379B of, team owner, Jean Rondeau & J P Jaussaud.

Nice cars Steve, were the real cars production based or tube frame cars?

They were production based (with extensive roll-cages, of course).

Those are really neat models. Thanks for showing them.

Great cars, and I love the pic showing the three flags on the rear quarters! Nice work.
