Had something rather interesting happen to me yesterday and wondered if anyone else had ever noticed it? I have decided to switch to Deans connectors from the Powerpole connectors I've been using for the last 15 years after starting to have some problems with the PP connectors contact (new and old ones). In putting a new connector on my GT7 I noticed a piece of the wire sticking out on the + side after soldering so I thought I'd just crimp it back against the rest of the wire before I put shrink on. When I did this I happened to touch the pliers across the +/- wires and got a SPARK! :freak: No battery anywhere near things so I assume this discharge was from the power cap? Any concern I should have about my GT7 now going up in smoke when I turn it on Sunday? :( Just wondered if anyone else had ever experienced this phenomenon with an ESC that has one of these caps and if you did, did it hurt anything?

I've don't remember having that happen when I used to run a GT7. But, it probably did. I have had it happen with a GTB and have not had any trouble. And the GTB has a GIGANIMOUS MONSTER cap on it!

It happens about 95% of the time with the gtb. Just the cap discharging, like Scott said.

Thanks guys. At least I know now that others have seen it and I'm not nuts. Good to know also that it "probably" won't have caused a problem. Guess I'll find out tomorrow.

yea its pretty spooky to see at first. its probably not the "best" thing for your esc but ive done it plenty of times especially as clumsy as i am. and nothing has happened so far so I think you'll be alright. I remember one time I fliped the power switch on my esc on with no battery connected and the lights came on for a seccond and it scared the crap out of me.

Ya know now that you mention that, that happened one time with my GTS! :freak:
No problems with the GT7 today. Matter of fact I set a new track record in the class. :D
