I have 90 feet of artin digital track and want to modify some higher end cars with the artin chip. Will the stock supply be enough? It is a lot bigger than most stock power supplies (15 volt 1,200 mA) If I need a bigger supply how do I go about hooking it up for the digital?

One of the best modifications you can do to your Digi-Pro track is to copper tape the rails. This will make sure that you have near perfect power around the track which is crucial for the digital signal to communicate with the cars. This is best done on more permanent layouts, because it can leave a tape residue when removed. The first thing to do is to clean the rails with a clean cloth and some rubbing alcohol. Then starting on one side of the power base, slowly apply the copper tape, such as Venture Brand Master foil tape (1/4" wide, .5 mils thick, 108 feet per roll. Conductive, self-adhesive.). Line up the outer edge of the tape with the outer edge of the rail so any excess is closer to the slot. One continuous loop minus the breaks for the lane changers is best. If you have to over lap the tape make sure that you do it in such a way that the overlap is in the direction that the cars run. This will make sure that the braids on the guides push down on the overlap rather than pull it up. The isolated rails that are found on the lane changers are optional. The great thing about this mod is you are optimizing the “out of the box” performance of the system without compromising reliability. You also get a track that runs a lot more like a routed track as all the rail joints are much smoother.

Thanks for the info. That should work out good for the set-up I'm making because I wanted to plan and make it pemanent. I'm starting with a 4' X 16' base and then laying the track out. So you think the stock power supply will be enough? I have ran a 60' track temporary and all 6 cars ran great. Thanks again! Have a good one. -Dan

Dan,

It will be close but I think the stock power supply will get the job done if you copper tape the rails. My understanding is that the overload protection is in the power supply so if you ever decide to upgrade the power be sure to put a 2 amp fuse on the positive wire of the power leads.
