View Full Version : At least I know that I am not the only one....
69Stang 01-31-2008, 08:04 AM Of all the cars GL has chosen to produce to date, the only one I have never cared for is the Chrysler 300J. Not that the car was not OK, it was for me just that, OK. But I just never have been warm and fuzzy over it.
And just my luck...they are using it to death! I have wondered if others are into that casting, or maybe someone at GL is. So I found it amusing that today while in a local Target, looking at the 8 (yes, that's correct, EIGHT pegs marked for GL!) I was both pleased and amused at what I found.
Of only maybe 10 cars on all 8 pegs (cool, been selling VERY well here!) 6 of them were the 300J!!! :p And from three different series no less!
Seams I am not the only one who passed on these. I have one of each from the releases, but I just don't find myself buying extras on this one! I know there are guys diggen' this land barge, but now I know I am not alone in my taste.
Keep up the good work GL, just take a break on the 300!!!

BluntFronts 01-31-2008, 02:59 PM I love the 1/1 car, and I like the GL casting of it, but I wish that GL would have produced more top-down convertible versions instead of the hardtops.
I think that top-down convs sell better than coupes both in diecast and 1/1s.
Anyway, I'm definitely not in love with the way that the separate plastic superstructure of the hardtop coupe is attached to the metal body of the GL.
I wish that GL would have ponied up the extra bucks and tooled up separate coupe and conv dies.
It's a do-it-right-the-first-time, one-time investment, and such cost-cutting compromises as the plastic hardtop will haunt the final product's quality (and sales) forever.
In addition, the difficulty of matching paint colors on the adjacent metal and plastic parts has got to be much tougher than painting the one-piece metal bodies. Sometimes that difference really shows, too.
Actually a modular die arrangement might have been possible, with interchangeable coupe and top-down convertible tooling segments for the different roof area configurations. (Top-up convertibles do look realistic with the plastic molded tops attached to the top-down convertible bodies.)
Anyway, I suspect that top-down convertibles would not be the PWs that the coupes seem to be in some stores. All that was left at our Target were four of the orange & black 300J customs - I bough the last blue 300J coupe and left the orange ones. Its custom paint job does not appeal to me.
Atencio 01-31-2008, 03:21 PM I like the 300's.
I see customs (of any casting) and Corvettes more than anything else sitting on the pegs.
STUTZ 01-31-2008, 03:52 PM I bought a few 300's, but I won't buy another one unless it's a GM hanging on the peg.
jimhowie2000 02-05-2008, 07:06 PM I agree, for me, this was always just an Ok car, not one I went crazy over, Personally, I am glad they made the 63 and 64 because it does fill a void in the mopar 1/64 scale collections. I hope they make a 65 300L. I think it is a much nicer looking car and had the distinction of being the last of the true letter cars. A 62 would also be nice as it was the first without fins.

The '65 would be nice..I'd like to see the '69 and '70, esp. the '70 300 Hurst..I love the fuselage styling of the '69-73 C-bodies..
glhshelby 02-05-2008, 08:50 PM the real one is ok,but spending $4 for a car I don`t lust after just isn`t gonna happen when gas prices are $3.20 a gallon. They should stick to more mainstream cars until the economy is better.

I'd agree on these as well, I always liked the fuselage styled Mopars too. Hey, maybe they'd do the ultimate police car....a 69 Dodge Polara? While we are at it, the 70-71 Sport Fury Gt and S23 would be most welcome as well.
edseldave 02-05-2008, 11:32 PM There has been many cars done more times than the Chrysler 300 . Cudas & Mustangs are some . The limited popularity of the Chrysler makes the many left behind - (especially the custom versions) , seem like more were made than the others . To date only 3 series has used the Chrysler .. Pace Car , MCG 4 & 5 .. There are 5 versions of the '63 & 2 of the '64 . It may not be the best choice in cars , but at least it was something different !! I would like to see the 66 Comet made as a pace car , then there could be some regular 66 & 67 Comets made too !!
I see lots of Vettes left behind too . They have worn out their welcome just like the overabundance of VW's !!

Real cars have Roofs and the ONLY thing that should be toppless on a warm sunny day is a hot chick :woohoo:

Ah, ok. That makes sense now
there are cars here at k-mart from the very first cars they got in 2006 in november. plus ones since. even lowering the prices (liqidation attempt) didn't help. and all those vettes! people buy the green machines, and the rest are peg warmers.
