my rustler xl-5 runs so slow and i got a brand new battery fully charged and hooked that in and it still ran sooo slow could it be my esc?

what kind of battery did you get and was it from eliminator

Is it in training mode?

When you turn it on Hold the button down when the red light comes on keep holding it down until you see it blink once That puts iy in standard mode \
If you hold it down until it blinks 3 times that is traing mode and makes it 50% throttle and 50% brake

I also have a ? regarding the set up on the XL5 I have a spectrum radio and I can't get it to set up reverse I have went thorugh the set up for it lots of tiems and still wont reconize reverse
I think it has somthing ot do with the radio and not the esc

Hey the thing is my car is already in standard its just really messed. and i think its the esc because my car doesnt have breaks no matter what mode im in.

Time to try Traxxas Tech I think
If I remember right it is 1888traxxas or 800 traxxas
They are real good with stuff over the phone
