Recently I saw "Life After People" on the History International channel. The theme was what would happen to our Infrastructure if people hypothetically disappeared & what would happen to our buildings, cars & cities in increments of 5,50 ,100- 200 years with no people to maintain them ?
They did not really touch on what would happen to plastics & polymers etc.
what would happen to the typical slot car & its related materiels over the centuries ? I know that early HO slot bodies used the same materials as the old Ma Bell phones. What about the rubber & metal parts ?

They would last until the aliens landed, started racing, and loaded them up to take back to their planet as the newest hobby rage.

Better yet.....our spirits would stay around keep our cars and continue to race them and keep the world of slot cars racing alive. :)

... or just maybe when said "Aliens" tried to take away the slot cars, the descendants of my cat Cheddy might have a different idea entirely. He has a pretty good time with them now... can't see that changing much for him or his kind for many years to come. It'd be an epic battle for sure. Highly evolved Feline Hobbyists versus the Aliens... Bottom line... you'd have to pry them outta their cold dead paws!!! nd

Plastic ages over time. I'm picturing very angry aliens.

I predict that all the different colors will become as "Tan" is today. Shrunken screw posts snapping out when they go to "probe" an armature. Complete sides of snappy bodies will break out when the chassis are removed.

Most all the copper and brass will be verdigreed beyond the powers of tarnex. With no electricity it wont really matter. All slots will have to be pushed around like diecasts. Aliens will be required to learn our ancient diecast language so they can make the correct "Wamba" and "motor boat" noise.

Their archeological teams will undoubtedly view our slot shrines as a form primitive idol worship.

Should their space ship ever break down' I have enough t-jet magnets in the top drawer to escape earths gravity. I'll leave them a note.

I would assume that the steel axles, screws, rear driven gear shaft & armatures would corrode away into a rusty mush with the copper windings embedded. The brass gears & p/u shoes should maintain their integrity & survive the other metals.Don't know to much about how the bodies & chassis would do over the centuries as far as maintaining their colors & not becoming brittle. But I would prefer to think that there will be at least a recognizable HO slot car after 2-300 years despite the corroded away metal.I prefer to think that resincasts like mine would survive.

Your tires on your slot car would be the first thing to go. Ever see them melt over time? Or dry rot. I've pulled cars out of a box and thrown them on the track to watch the tires fall apart in chunks.

I have a 1915 Kodak Hawkeye folding camera. Everything on it still works and nothing is broken or torn. If I could find film for it I'll bet it would still take a decent picture. It has been sitting forever and nobody maintains it. Some mechanical things will last a while even without humans.

 You humans struggle to keep your little cars running years after they are past their prime. New parts here, new tires there, fresh paint and away you go. Always searching that thing called Epay, Fleabay, Fleapay, Ebay or something like that for "primo" cars you probably shouldn't acquire. Us Aliens just pop them in the Molecular Particle Restucturing Clone-amatic and out pops a "mint" new little car. So good luck to you humans in your endeavor to keep your little toys running. And we must admit....a lot of youse are very good at this. So the next time you can't find that new armature (you swear you had right there on the workbench), new brushes (that your thought just fell on the floor), that soft squishy tire you thought rolled away, or whatever you can't find, just look to the sky. We are sending it through our Molecular Particle Restructuring Clone-amatic and will be racing into the next eon. :woohoo:

youse???

I find it hard to believe that win43 is an alien from Washington state. He sounds more like an alien from da Philly.

As for the "youse"...I originally landed in Jersey. Thus the use of youse has been permanently imbedded into my vocabulary. :jest: :D

Close enough!!

More than half my family eventually moved to Jersey. I was first, when the rest got there........I moved to Delaware!!

Further proof that there is some kind of interdimensional "lost parts conduit" that binds us all in common!
