View Full Version : Niftech traction compound NCFRC 01-27-2008, 06:06 AM Is this stuff really odorless ? Or just no wintergreen ? Anybody using it ? Thanks for any feedback The Jet 01-27-2008, 11:33 AM I haven't found a compound that's oderless...Niftec doesn't have the wintergreen smell though, and lots of the fast guys around here use it and swear by it, I need to join that club ;) . nate00 01-27-2008, 12:09 PM i think it kinda smells like nail polish remover sg1 01-27-2008, 12:12 PM It does have a smell, but not wintergreen. I've used it for years with no complaints. I used it on 1/18 scale, 1/12 scale, and 1/10 scale. It works the best on high bite tracks. Doesn't need to be wipped off. NCFRC 01-27-2008, 12:23 PM I'm not familiar with a NO WIPE compound . It must dry or evaporate ? Does it leave the tire softer or just stickier ? If it smells like nail polish remover , then it has acetone in it. A differrent carrier than those that use lacquer thinner. briano_72 01-27-2008, 12:33 PM if you put it on about a half hour to 45 minutes before hand, you do not need to wipe it off. but if you do it right before hand, you at least need to scrub it into the carpet before you take off at the line. the only way you really get a smell of it is if you stick your nose in the bottle. its very low smell. and another thing, its very gental on the 3-4 thousand dollar carpet your track had to pay for. it almost leaves no black marks and it kinda evaporates after a few days. Allan A 01-27-2008, 12:58 PM I was told by a major carpet mfg that it is the most harmful of all the traction compounds. I know of some tracks that ban the use of it for the same reason. Maybe I am wrong but that is what I have been told. briano_72 01-27-2008, 12:59 PM i have also heard it is hard on the foam underneath, but i have not seen anything at our place bad happen !! NCFRC 01-27-2008, 04:52 PM We use 28oz. commercial loop carpet and I find it hard to believe anything would get to the structure of it. You'd have to pour alot on it to get to the bottom. briano_72 01-27-2008, 10:33 PM we have the new crc carpet. its just like anything else. there is good and bad with all. as far as traction, i dont like it, its a little low. it seems to only last about 3 to 3 1/2 minutes. i liked tq the best over all. it sticks like glue, it also does not really smell unless you jam your nose in the bottle. but it would leave black marks on the track. that is the #1 reason my track changed to niftec. as a track owner, i guess they see the black marks and think the carpet is getting beat. as a racer, we see the black marks and call it a groove and we love it !! so what are ya gonna do ??? NCFRC 01-27-2008, 10:45 PM Not to sway from the main thread topic , but wev'e used TQ for years on this track and for some reason can no longer get. Thats why wer'e considering Niftec as a replacement. ?? Butters16 01-27-2008, 11:20 PM It is close to TQ max in the wat it works , you wash your tires though it seems to soften the foam if you don't wash it out. burbs 01-28-2008, 05:26 AM It has more of a chemical smell like motor spray, but it does not linger in the air at all.. As for traction, i like it more then paragon.. They key i have found is you have to clean your tires properly to allow it to soak in. Or skin the tire on the lathe.. This opens the poures (sp) up to let it soak in. If the poures are all gummed up it wont soak.. I also find you must let it sit on longer.. The directions are right on the back of the bottle.. Do it how they say and it will be great. My fastest runs have always been on niftech. Outlaw 44 01-28-2008, 08:04 PM I run Nifteck wherever I'm not allowed to run Paragon. As far as that stuff being odorless, maybe, but the fumes are just as dizzying when you have 100 guys in the same room using it. The stuff goes straight to your brain without warning. The Jet 01-28-2008, 09:21 PM I want a bottle or 2, who can hook me up??? Jon Boy 01-29-2008, 09:31 AM I'm sure Butters16 can hook you up Jet. L4OvalRacer 01-29-2008, 09:42 AM I have used Niftec for over 2 years and will never use anything diffrent. Niftec has a smell but it isent a wintergreen smell. It smells a little better than wintergreen but it works. I have seen that Parigon works better but has a really bad smell. I usally let the tire sit for 10-15 min before wipping them off. NCFRC 01-29-2008, 09:47 PM I run Nifteck wherever I'm not allowed to run Paragon. As far as that stuff being odorless, maybe, but the fumes are just as dizzying when you have 100 guys in the same room using it. The stuff goes straight to your brain without warning. As far as availability of Niftech , I've only found it from them and they won't even take a CC or Pay Pal. The idea of going straight to your brain is scary as some of these contain toluene , which is banned in many states , ever smelled glue to get high ? Thats what your inhaling  OvalmanPA 01-30-2008, 07:01 PM You can get some from Tom at www.specpointbatteries.com Last I knew he had a case of it left and he takes CC and Paypal. Not sure if he presently has it on the site so you might have to email him about it. KenBajdek 02-01-2008, 12:42 AM We stock Niftech traction compound. Online orders or call during the day.
