This is my first Tecumseh rebuild. It is a 3.5 horse off of a Craftsman push mower.
I can't get the bottom of teh engine off of the crankshaft. On a briggs, you just pull it off, but this on won't go. What's the secret? Do I need a puller? The one I have isn't big enough.
Thanks.

Did you clean the crank near the seal with emory paper to remove any rust ?
Get a helper to hold the engine up side down by the pan flange about a inch off the floor, Lay a block of wood on the crank and give it a couple taps with a hammer and see it that doesn't pop it loose.

The shaft has been cleaned up. I tried beating on it with wood and support on the bottom, but it's stubborn. I'll get a bigger hammer.
THanks.

You might remove the oil seal, press sump back to crankcase and use emory cloth on crank until it shines as close to the sump as you can get. If sump doesn't rotate easily on crank there is crud between the crank and sump bushing. (not good)
thanks,

All it took was a bit more shine and a bigger hammer. Now off to do the rings.....
Thanks for the help.
