I won this G boxed purple Charger on ebay last week for an excellent price - nobody seemed to care it was the uncommon purple from the 22 Pontiac GP rather than the normal Magenta.Either way I am very pleased to have it. The christmas that this casting was first issued (1970), I received 1 from a christmas party dip and a 2nd on 25th December. My most vivid memory of playing with these 2 was using them as Star Trek communicators with friends and trying to get Scotty to beam us up :hat: - we sure had fun back then being 6 and 7  .
Anybody else out there got any purple Chargers?
Here is the complete set I hope to collect- light and dark magenta with light and dark purple - original image courtesy of Marcus O´Tissy

60sMetal 01-25-2008, 02:17 PM Wow - cool variations in shade. Thanks for sharing the pics!
Moparaz 01-26-2008, 11:30 PM I have one Purple with green bottom and one Green with purple bottom one of these I love these ones awesome models
The Moutain 04-01-2008, 06:36 PM sweet models. one model with very many shade differences, add that to the base shades and the fun begins.
here are some purples, the one on the right is a lighter shade, as pictured next to the magenta.

Hey Lummox, can you email me some pics of that car? Do you have any large sized pics?
Lummox 04-04-2008, 05:47 PM Yeah, all I did was google "Charger III" and you'll find that pic and probably a few others.
If'n ya cain't find it lemme know.
None of my Chrysler literature has any info on this car, but the web searches say some
real interesting things about it.

Lummox 04-04-2008, 06:22 PM Check out this bitchin kit this one guy built. Although he doesn't say the brand or scale,
I remember it in my 1969 Auto World Catalog. It was made by MPC and was 1/25th scale.

The Moutain 04-23-2008, 09:08 PM good information and the model kit is excellent.
knew i had a blistered purple model just had to find the right box it was hiding in.
the blister has seen better days, it did keep the model fresh. :)

Very nice to see this darkest shade of purple:thumbsup: perhaps the historic damage to the blister was caused by rejecting small hands searching through a mountain of blisters in a toy store way back in 1970-71??
The Moutain 04-24-2008, 04:31 PM wonder how many kids past by models because they weren’t looking for a specific variation? it was always a children’s toy, although it was the collector who would buy any shade available on the market.:)
i’m glad i kept most of the odd or difficult variations in the blisters.
i was looking at the model in the middle with the label and depending the model it is next to it can appear reddish or purple. the paint on the charger was one of strongest paint jobs, always held a shine.

SMS88 04-24-2008, 05:47 PM I would call these 3 Chargers from left to right, red, magenta and purple with the middle car being the standard most common colour.Somebody over on MCCH once showed that all the SF 22 pontiac GP purple shade variations can be found on the 52 Charger, and that the baseplate green shades can vary like the dark metallic green 45 Ford Group 6.But the rarest 52 Chargers are the issues with skinny SF wheels, which may in fact be factory errors as there are so few about, did AIM record this as a legit issue in 1970?
The Moutain 04-24-2008, 11:13 PM never saw it cataloged with thin wheels, which doesn’t mean it never was issued. as you said it has been reported with thin wheels, who knows if it was an intentional variation.
here is the way it was catalog in up until 1971. i wonder if anybody has the hundreds of variations.

SMS88 04-25-2008, 05:32 AM What a superb photo of Chargers and Pontiacs, thankyou:thumbsup:
It makes me wonder how the shades of the 67 VW1600TL and the 19 Lotus blend in with Chargers and Pontiacs to make a purple-magenta rainbow.
Lesney have been recorded as not cleaning paint sprayers between colours so castings going down the line would follow the rainbow spectrum violet-indigo-red as these 4 castings were painted most likely in sequence
The Moutain 04-25-2008, 11:10 AM not all are purple. plus beach buggy with white interior and mod tractor with red seat:)

SMS88 04-25-2008, 04:04 PM I like the Setra better with the clear windows:thumbsup: (I forgot to consider the Setra and Freeman - didnt the gold and yellow Setras come out in 1971-72 with the dark magenta from late 1972 after the production of purple Chargers & Pontiacs & VW had ended ??)
Some of those cars in magenta like the 32 Bora dont exactly seem to match my Charger paint shades and may well be 1 coat paints rather than the silver or gold base with clear purple or magenta laquer as applied to all Chargers,Pontiacs,Freeman, VW1600 ,Lotus when all in production in 1970-71 in almost the same shades of colours.
