Well he scewed up Bewitched, so why not this. How anybody can say this hack is funny is beyond me. He ruins everything he's in.

I'm no Ferrell fan, but I don't think he bore the brunt of the responsibility for the trainwreck that was Bewitched. That responsibility would fall on screenwriter/director Nora Ephron, who obviously was making it up daily as she went along. Besides, how could anyone possibly "screw up" Land of the Lost?

I think this may be a joke or something. Farrell did play "Marshal Willenholly" in Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. Somebody in tinseltown has been smoking too much "stuff" and watching whatever is on.

Besides, I really don't like Will Farrell. He grates my nerves.

Nothing is sacred. Classics are our only hope of good scifi in this era of re-makes/no-makes, re-imagined/no-imagination, copy cat world of movie making these days.

Movies and TV shows were never sacred in my book. Although, they can be entertaining.

Can't anybody in Hollyweird come up with an original idea now-a-days..?

Personally I can't stand Farrell, so this will be another on my mustn't-see list.

So ... you guys are saying that Land of the Lost was not only an original idea but that it also qualifies as Classic Sci-Fi?

Speaking of classic sci-fi, I think Farrell would be perfect for a remake of "The Lost Saucer" :p

(Maybe Katie Holmes as his co-star?) :freak:

So ... you guys are saying that Land of the Lost was not only an original idea but that it also qualifies as Classic Sci-Fi?

Okay, look, it may have been a kids' show, and it may have been poorly acted, and the effects may have been overambitious for their primitive video techniques. But they were obviously TRYING to make a good sci fi/fantasy series for young people. It had atempts at serious drama, it had its own unique mythology, it had some interesting mysteries, and it was staffed by ex-Trek people who took their jobs seriously.

So - why in the hell can't Hollywood take a stab at making a film that adheres to the SPIRIT of the original show? Make it a serious sci fi-fantasy! Step up! Take it as a challenge! Use those writing skills to move past the limitations of the original and recreate it as something new and BETTER. Can't writers do "serious" any more? Is the ONLY way to make a movie from a decades-old TV series to make fun of it? Does every remake HAVE to be a farce? So far every one except Addams Family (a comedy to begin with) has sucked anyway, don't they friggin LEARN?!

Hollywood - STOP MAKING FUN OF ME!

Yep. And Brad Bird replicated that weirdness to an absolute T in Mr. Incredible & Pals.

New 'Day the Earth Stood Still' is about Global warming, not atomic war! Yeesh.

"Dude, like you gotta get green and drive hybrids and stuff, or like Gort will blow up your SUVs".

quote "Fifty years later and Klaatu has a new message for humanity, but one with equally dire consequences should we choose to ignore it, Keanu Reeves, who is playing the alien in Scott Derrickson’s upcoming remake, told MTV News.
“The first one was borne out of the cold war and nuclear détente. Klaatu came and was saying cease and desist with your violence. If you can’t do it yourselves we’re going to do it. That was the film of that day,” Reeves explained. “The version I was just working on, instead of being man against man, it’s more about man against nature. My Klaatu says that if the Earth dies, you die. If you die, the earth survives. I’m a friend to the earth.”
While humanity still engages in a staggering number of international conflicts, the environmental message is one that, not only encompasses wars, and fights, and terrorism, but one that goes beyond constrictions to become a millennial message of “what we are doing and who we are as a species,” Reeves insisted. “We’re trying to reach beyond the idea of [just] environmentalism.”"

So...Gort and Company were ready to blow our butts out of the sky if we thrreatened to export our nuclear aggression offplanet. Nice of them to warn us, but not exactly the kind to be all that caring of our welfare.

Now they want to be our Nanny? Must have been a regime change.

. . . Reeves explained. “The version I was just working on, instead of being man against man, it’s more about man against nature. My Klaatu says that if the Earth dies, you die. If you die, the earth survives . . .

That's pretty funny actually.;) Looking at the resume's for the director and screenwriter on this project, I'd say, yeah - this is destined for the bad remake pile - regardless of "message".

Because those who are in a position to make movies, may not remember it the same way you do.
That doesn't make them right, and others higher opinion of the subject matter doesn't make those people right either.
For those who like to complain about how movies SHOULD be made, I suggest they get into the movie business, become a producer, get studios to hand you millions of dollars so you can make it the way you want it made, and then see how your version does.

Most of the movies I've seen lately look like the producer was adding up scenes to get enough time in to get their check.

I've noticed that sort of thing, too, though I figured it was the director and crew just going through the motions.

I think Star Trek X was an infamous example of that method of movie-making.

Also, one of the clearest examples of using a movie to spread the wealth to friends and associates has got to be the village (nothing special at all) in Star Trek:Insurrection that was built for no real reason.

Hey, we can quote OURSELVES.
As a kid I was told I'd go blind doing that.:freak:

...............lets not forget, after the studio greenlights your project, and gives you the money, they are continously making comments about how YOU should make your movie. Telling you to do this and do that........'SUGGESTING' who you should cast etc....

Quite frankly, I'm amazed movies come out as good as they do with all the cooks in the kitchen.

Not too difficult to tell how the meal is going to be, if you take the time to examine all of the ingredients that are used to make it.
