on the good side, the rails have a higher conductivity rate than the other brands... which means fewer wire taps on larger layouts

It's a great track for kids, with the high rails, the cars really stick to the track

Better off getting Tomy track. Or Mattel/Tyco.

As Montoya1 says, the biggest drawback is lack of track variety. Specifically the lack of curve choices. Lifelike only offers a flat 9" 1/4 curve. The only other curve choices are 9" 1/8 banks (very hard to find and no longer available) and 12" banked curves.

They do however offer adapter track to go between Lifelike, Tyco/Matel and Tomy, so you could mix and match.

The other drawback I would mention is the electrical connections. They use the same technique as the old Aurora MM and AFX track. Probably the worse design imaginable.

On the plus side, the track does seem to be made quite well. And it has even lane spacing, the same as Tyco/Mattel.

I got back in to the hobby by accident. I saw a lifelike set in a super box store. I remembered how much fun I had as a kid and bought the set for me and my son. I forgot how addicting pushing the envelope w/ these little buggers could be! I was heart broken when one of my son's friends stripped the crown gear on one of the cars by holding the car down to make the tires smoke.

I couldn't find any hobby shops near me that even had slot car items. It was all R/C, trains, and military models. My wife suggested Ebay and then I started cruising the WWW. At this point I'm sure my wife regrets the suggestion.

History lesson complete, I have to admit that the Lifelike set does have better conductivity than I remember my old AFX having (copper rails). The rails do appear high which is great for Tyco and Lifelike cars. Tjets w/ stock tires only seem to have issues when cornering.

I put together a 4 lane track that is of respectable length. I believe it is 43 feet per lane going by piece size. Each lane has 12 turns, three of which are outside turns w/ walls allowing leaning. This is accomplished w/ crossover tracks and an expanded figue 8 design. I converted four of the power tracks to single lane use w/ wall werts and stock controllers ( a bit small) The layout is enjoyable for neighborhood basement racing.
