If you were to watch these shows today as adults for the first time, for the most part we may see them as cheesy and Low budget. But even as a 44 year old adult,I can't help watching them with out the imagination of being a kid watching them for the first time. Such an impact, even as an adult!!! What memories. They almost remind you of where you were the first time you saw them on tv.The shows themselves, the actors, and oh yes the sound tracks!!. I barely remember one of the premier episodes of LIS with the cavemen, because I was only 4 lol. I became very familier with it through reruns in the early 70s.LIS is my all time favorite. And what's amazing is that years ago I watched LOTG and VTTBOTS pretty much in passing when I caught them, and thought they were quite cool,I think I was more familier with LIS because LIS was played more often, and it was on every weekday afternoon on channel 50 out of Detroit.. Later on I found out that IA was responsible for all of them including the TT. I can't imagine 60s tv without Irwin IA. Would have loved to see follow up specials on all of these, but I guess they were never meant to happen, even though some have tried to bring them about. If ya think about it,even though some of the cast have passed on.,the Robinsons are still out in space, the crew aboard the Spindrift are still in the land of the giants, the crew on the seaview are still in the ocean, and the two from TT are still jumping through time lol. Sort of keeps them all alive in our hearts. Thank God for dvd and merchandise. GO IA!!!

Thats when I remember watching LIS on channel 50. For a while channel 20 showed LOTG on weeknites, because I remember wondering what DR. Smith was doing on that show and also the episode with the Space Pod.

I've been watching LIS on American Life channel on cable and thoroughly enjoying them in the same manner as you've described.

You're exactly right about the impact of IA on kids during the 60s and 70s. I'm a year or two older than you and remember the original showing of many of the shows as well as getting to enjoy them later (and actually remember them) in repeats.

I wouldn't label any of these shows as "low budget". In fact, I would say the effects are the only thing to recommend LOTG. I find that series absolutely unwatchable. VTTBOS and LIS hold up well as genuinely entertaining shows, even as they degnerated towards increasing silliness. The Time Tunnel? Well, at least you get to see some decent stock footage sometimes. I'd give Irwin Allen two hits and two misses as far as these four shows are concerned.

Watched Robert Duvall (spelled Duval in the credits) as an underwater alien named Zar on VTTBOS last night on The American Life Channel.

I concur exactly with your judgement, sir!

I've also got a big kick out of watching these on American Life. TT just does not hold up to me like it did when I was 5.(although Nero's Ghost was better than most) Still enjoy LIS, and VTTBOTS. I've tried to get my boys interested in them, but being brought up on today's special effects, they look at me funny and comment what a boring childhood I must have had when I tell them to come look at a particular shot of the Seaview or the robot...

i remember when these were first aired back in the 60's . man we kids were in heaven .and at the time they were the cutting edge for effects and such ( these shows were our BSG's in those days ) . i recall being just blown away the first time i saw the Seaview breaching the surface , shooting up at that crazy angle !
i've been really enjoying them since they've been showing on ALN .
and on tuesday nights i've been catching Rat Patrol and 12 O'clock High .
great memories !!

When I said cheesy and low budget,I meant by todays standards, but for the time, they were cutting edge. I always watch them with the eyes of when they were seen as a kid, lots more fun that way.

I'd say the underwater miniature work in VTTBOS is still more convincing than it's CGI equivalent would be. Some things just work. I'm not a "fan" in the sense that some here are, but watching that show through pretty objective "adult" eyes - it's still a very impressive producton on all levels.

I have to say a big thumbs up to American Life for putting these shows on, back to back, same night, starting with the first episode! Can't wait for season 2 of LIS to start! I just hope and pray they run them all through. Maybe even show them more than once a week even.

Kingzilla,
You write with too many acronyms for me. I recognise Lost In Space (LIS) and Land of the Giants (LOTG). But, I have no idea what the other acronyms mean.

I have to deal with too many United States Air Force (USAF) acronyms at work as it is. At least there, I have a list of USAF acronyms at my fingertips.
