Lpgeoteacher 01-13-2008, 11:56 AM Love the purple VW Fastback. I've looked for one of those for a while.
Lummox 01-13-2008, 08:15 PM That's a trick question. Ain't it?
The only ONE missing is the Iron Ferry Crane #42, right?
Or is the second one the THIN tired #33 - yours looks like a later wide tire.
Or could it be the #39 Ford tractor with a shade of blue only found with the King Size truck and trailer???? No?
OOOooook ok ok, you tricky sumbich, you almost had me - the CORRECT Combine is missing! I thought there was something weird about that one.
That's some Ninteen-eighty-whocares year MB! Get that thing outta there!;)
Cool contest!

Well spotted Lummox, 100% correct on all counts - I dont have the SFno42 Iron Fairy or the 65 Harvester.I do have a blistered 39 Tractor in lighter blue with the yellow hood and somewhere have my childhood lighter blue 40 trailer, and I was wondering if anybody would notice the ww 33 Muira in place of my thin wheels example -it can be boring looking at pix if things are too obvious  I nearly put in a decal 61 Alvis because I couldnt find the stickered example I own........
SMS88 01-14-2008, 08:13 AM Here is my 1970 lineup without the imposter ;)

Here is is again with a bunch of 1971 cars added - one new SF casting that should be here is not,and one that was certainly replaced is -which number? I have also changed 2 cars which to many eyes appears unchanged, but to the variation specialists is easily spotted -to make it easy they are NOT paint or wheel or baseplate variations

I certainly am missing the 42 but the 44 Refridgerator truck I have was in both the 1970 and 1971 catalogs.
I had a cheap SF42 in my hands 9 days ago but the chewed hook and chromeless wheels made me leave it behind.........
It has been a lot of fun arranging cars in number order (how i wish I had a dsiplay like Matchbox Tomīs new one  Perhaps this summer I will try to build my own stepped display that can park 250 cars at 45 degree angle out of acrylic as I have plenty at home and a saw that can cut it....
Here is about as far as I can get by adding in 1971 updates:

THANKYOU :) it is fun pulling out a lot of cars and doing something with them. Now tonight they are going back into a different order in the display cases and boxes where they live....
60sMetal 01-15-2008, 11:35 PM I'd like to be a fly on your wall, so to speak! How about some pics of your display room?

Here are the most interesting 1/3 of my small Lesney box collection plus the transitionals that I remember best from my childhood. There is a Corgi in plain view in this picture -can anybody recognise the casting? The gas station is the rarest Lesney item I own, probably -3 of the cars inside are repainted childhood favourites but everything else carries its Lesney paint. This is about 1/6 of my Lesney car collection -camera batteries are finished so this is the only shot I could get....

karl-e 01-17-2008, 04:06 PM SMS! - Something caught my eye! The Esso sign on the right hand side of the last photo - who made it?, is it metal or plastic?, how big is it compared to the Lesney sign
Karl-E. Denmark
Lummox 01-17-2008, 04:21 PM The Corgi is the brown car next to the MGA in the upper level of the garage?

Nope, its a 22 Cresta in bronze. The Corgi is a Mercedes bus parked next to the Setra -these 2 toys always belong side by side in my eyes as I got both castings (these are mint replacements) new and played with them together as a child.
The right side ESSO sign is plastic fitted with a decal, not a sticker, so its 1960s and came in this garage set along with the metal sign and the pumps -may or may not be Lesney - no marks to indicate brand....

I only have about 2500 cars of which 800 are modern HW and 400 are buses, so I dont have a toyroom, but I do have a few overcrowded displays - here are a few quick photos showing my freshly re-organised Lesneys (with the upgraded 30 rw castings that were new to me as a child top right), my favourite Corgis & Dinkies plus my overcrowded Husky/Juniors / Rockets display that is my priority to re-arrange :)

Lummox 01-18-2008, 03:22 PM I knew that bus looked off. I didn"t want to guess more than once, but that would've been my next guess.
Very nice displays!!!
60sMetal 01-18-2008, 07:43 PM Wow!!! Outtasight collection-you sure have some beautiful pieces there. The corgi bus would have been, like my 25th guess!! But now that you've pointed it out, didnt corgi also make a school bus version of that bus? I think my bro. had it.

It is the school bus ! It was issued 1973 originally in metallic blue as I have here with red stripe school bus logos then in 1976 in yellow with black school bus stickers - a fine model of a common 12-16 seater euro minibus. I am very happy with my collection and I have all of the cars that I really really want - now its a case mainly of enjoying what I have and focusing on filling in gaps -
I feel blessed having just about everything that I remember from toy stores as a child, which is the focus of my vintage collection :)
