View Full Version : Freddie's 2008 1/4 Scale Season
Freddie's Hobbies 01-08-2008, 11:59 AM Well it’s been a while since I have been on. I sort of took a few months of not getting upset. I have got to say it’s been nice. What I do find to be a relief is that the ¼ scale guys are what I call normal. I do not here all of the whining that goes on with the 1/10th scale guys. I know this will get reposted out on those threads but who cares.
Last year my father and I built something I now sit back and am proud to have accomplished. I still need to finish up a few things before spring, but for the most parts it’s pretty nice.
I look forward to meeting many new people this year. I am surprised at how many people came last year each and every week to support me and to have some good racing.
This year I have a funny feeling it will be even easier. I expect at least 30-40 entries a week. I am going to make one of those “ Freddie Rules” that people have grown to hate at first, but grown to understand then afterwards. On all of out weekly programs excluding big races, QSAC events, Anyone wishing to race GN will have to first show they can run under 7 sec a lap in Sportsman.
In saying that I feel we will have enough people here to do as I do on the inside. I split people up by their abilities. For those who will run Sportsman and run 7.5 sec laps they will race people that run 7.5 sec laps. This way everyone is dueling in close racing competition. They will not get discouraged each week if they were placed in a class that they were lapped 15 times in each heat. I have done with this my inside program for years now and it seems to work out with everyone enjoying themselves.
I look forward to seeing everyone this year. It’s going to be a great, and exciting year. We will be adding trucks to our program, along with Sprint cars each week. I am planning on making the first QSAC race. And then I will be stuck here each week. Lets all have a great year!
IN2RACIN 01-08-2008, 01:02 PM I'm so ready to do some racing!!!!! Come on Spring! Heck, it feels like spring today!
It was 70 here yesterday, they're calling for snow this Sat. though.........bummer.....
4-Cell Racer 01-08-2008, 01:30 PM Can't wait to see the gang again. The under 7 sec. rule seems fair to me. Is it spring yet.
LetsRace 01-08-2008, 01:49 PM sounds excellent Freddie. I've always believed a rule like this should be at every track. These cars are too heavy and expensive to just throw it out there and see what happens. Precision and preparation are the keys to having a good time out there. when someone new is on the track, you can tell in practice where they need to start. we all started bad. but I don't see any reason to make things harder for someone by letting them race GN when they aren't ready but they think they are or their pride is getting in the way. they won't learn anything if they are just a moving target. learn the track, learn how to adjust your car, learn how the car reacts to your inputs when running in traffic. learn how to follow someone without driving threw them. you'll never master a clean pass with out learning to follow. Its not going to be slower car moving over when you get there most of the time. definitly not if your both on the same lap fight for position. so you've got to learn how to pass and when to go for it and when NOT to go for it . by no means have i mastered it, LOL ask scott. but its been done to me enough to understand it.
i think its going to be a great year of racing.
Freddie's Hobbies 01-08-2008, 05:07 PM Can anyone see Mark in this picture ? He is there ;)

I know this one, I know this one, under you in the next turn? LOL
aracefan3 01-08-2008, 10:16 PM Why dont you post a good looking car on here like mine?
I can send a new one with the pink paint on the sides.
Freddie's Hobbies 01-09-2008, 11:25 AM Lets see if I remember this one right.....hummmmmmm
Someone was afraid to damage his new body, so he pulled it from one race. Only to have it RIPPED ! ! ! ! ! from his car as it slid down the front straight and into the fence in turn 1. OH that body :p
You better stop in and get yourself a new one.
Freddie's Hobbies 01-09-2008, 03:50 PM Just a little note as I get back into things. I have reviewed last year’s race sheets. It seems we had 51 different racers at our facility last year. From my early-posted rule, I have determined that 18 of the 51 may start in GN if they wish.
I know everyone else has worked hard this winter on rebuilding their cars and working on setups. I am quite sure in the first few weeks we will be qualifying many more. GN is not a necessity to run if you run under the 7-second mark. You may run Sportsman all year if you choose. But all I am saying is in order to run GN you must be able to run consistently sub 7 second laps in Sportsman.
As for the Truck its an open table anyone and everyone can just go for it ! :woohoo:
lonwolpf 01-09-2008, 05:39 PM hmmmm ok.... what about the sportsman guys that need the whole width of the straight away just to make it down the front or back stretch.... (bouncing of the walls) I know I havn't broken the 7 second mark and i don't really have any intention of running GN. Just a question. is it right to hold a guy back that runs a good line? What about the new guy that runs GN everywhere else will he have to start in Sportsman till you see him run consistently under 7s.(might turn some new guys away). Just my 2 cents. I plan on running truck 90% of the time this year. I have been around r/c racing to many years to count I can be honest and admit at Freddie's I am not fast enough to run GN or at the QSAC races but I do feel if all the emphisis is on GN it can make some of us sportsman feel inferior..... just fuel for thought not trying to ruffle anybody's feathers. I am looking forward to a good year.
Chuck
Freddie's Hobbies 01-09-2008, 06:39 PM Silly boy, Its just like the inside. I am sure this " out or town " person would get on the track and pratice first before he race. DUHHHHHH I do watch people and see if they can run a line etc. :freak:
aracefan3 01-09-2008, 10:13 PM where are you going to list the 18?
You said you were going to sort by ability so folks should come on out and try before worrying. I have seen this system work well inside so it should be no prob outside. We can see by the pictures where the pink car will be running :freak:

Now that's some SMACK DOWN if i ever read any!!!...
DD
Freddie's Hobbies 01-10-2008, 10:08 AM Am I going to list the 18 ? No I think everyone who has ran it knows pretty much they have. Besides I know some of those people wont even consider running GN. I just dont want someone feeling they have to run GN and damaging their cars or someone elses. Or better yet my track.
Its just a way to ensure people walk before they run. To be honest I sort of liked the sportsman it was more evenly matched. ?
We will see. It is no different than 4-cell stock inside and everyone is split up buy how many laps they run a guy running 68 laps will never have to race the guys running 75 laps. I have enough people that I have groups of 7-10 guys in each catogory. Its close nice racing in each and everyone over the years has loved it.
lonwolpf 01-10-2008, 10:24 AM I thought I brought up a good question.. but I will keep my questions to myself.
Freddie's Hobbies 01-10-2008, 10:35 AM You know Chuck I tried to keep it on the light side of things but I see thats just not going to happen so I will just say it. We will race here Every Saturday this year and on 8 occations Saturday and Sundays, I am doing my thing I really am not going to go through the baby BULL Sh$t of people stupid comments. If you liked racing here late last summer great its not going to change. Come and have a good time. If you got your panties in a twist again who cares we will be racing with or without you.
This topic is done I try to keep thing in light and I have a bunch of peoples ego's getting in the way of just enjoying themselves. come race and enjoy. If people are going to nit pick at everything I do or say then you hav a bigger problem than racing. Anyone why has came here has seen I have tried to make everyone feel somewhat at home. I am not going to change but I am getting older and I will not put up with peoples bs this year I do not have to.
lonwolpf 01-10-2008, 10:35 AM I am seriously not trying to make anyone mad I thought that I posted a good question.. I havn't been inside to see the format.... I don't race much in the winter. I won't ask more questions. I will just race.
lonwolpf 01-10-2008, 10:53 AM Please don't misunderstand what I was saying. I was asking questions others would ask. I will say YES you did treat us good last year, made us feel very welcome. I am not nitpicking the only dumb question is one not asked. I am looking forward to a good year of close racing... and fun of course. Half the fun is BSing with all the guys. win or lose it's all good
