Please c/o the Collector guide to Marchon Slot cars by CHris Lukasiewcz as a guide.
I have The #78 grey MBz # 22068.3 or # 22068.4.Long Headlights & thicker wing supports. It looks like it has the standard # 2 chassis.
Also I have the T-Bird # 233 Police # 22050.2. with the # 4 chassis.
BTW, The black windows on the T-Bird are not a factory variation but some thing I did as I just think the grey windows make the car look toy-like & not like a real car.Cars in general look better with black windows not grey.Hopefully, the HO Gods will be lenient about this desecration. Perhaps some time in purgatory at the worst case ! LOL !
What the two had in common was a problem with the traction Magnets that were too strong & impeded the cars performance. Each side had a 2-piece magnet for a total of 4 small magnets. I removed one magnet on each side leaving a thinner magnet that was mounted back in the magnet housing in a vertical position with super glue gel or crushed aluminum tubing as a filler. The cars then performed normally.Have any of you ever seen this ?

Neal,
I haven't tried changing the magnet configuration yet, but I can tell you that running Marchon cars on Aurora L&J track was out of the question. Way too much downforce on most of them.

On the Mattel track, they run far better. As do most magnet cars.

Taller tires will give you back some speed. But if you're dead set on removing magnets, send the extras to me. I'll put 'em to good use, I promise. :D

I had the same problem on TOMY track.
