and left it on the pegs, two of them, in fact. I don't think it looked enough like the original car for me to want to buy it. It is a nice effort I appreciate them making, but the nose just looks to flat and plain for me to get excited about. It looked more like "Kit" (the Knight Rider car) than a super trans am like I'd hoped.

Maybe if I had bought one and opened it, it might have looked better?

What do others who have seen it think?

It looks nice to me but I don't know enough about T/A's to know if it is accurate or not. The rest of the series was kind of a let down to me.

I'll let ya know how accurate it is once I find one.
I've owned several 3rd gen birds includeing an 82 TA(Knight Rider), 85 and 86 TA's, and my favorite was an 89 GTA.

I left 4 of them on the pegs at two different TARGET stores.

It really didn't do anything for me.

it looked like it was off from the pics o had seen posted on the net but when i got to see it in person, it looked much better to me. it has some issues though. my biggest complaint is between the rear of the front tire opening to the front of the door. the bottom should pitch back down instead of a steady incline to the front. other than that, i was really impressed how close to scale it is. i thought that was off as well but it is pretty darn close. after you get it opened, look for a side profile shot of a 1:1 model and hold the greenlight up to it. it really is pretty close although not perfect. as far as i am concerned, greenlight did far better job with keeping this car along with most of their others true to scale than i've seen from any other manufacturer.

here are a few pics. some were taken without flash so you can see the different details.

Like Antencio said, I don't realy know these cars that well but looking back at Russ's
pix I see what you mean about the front end. Something doesn't quite seem right to me either.
It's just such a huge dissapointment when someone comes out with brand new tooling and it's out of whack. It's a real stinker when this happens.

Thanks for the pics Chris. I'm sticking to my guns on this one, had high hopes for a GTA, got a KIT with a later 90s rear spoiler. The hood is too flat and the nose is too short to me. Also look at the rims, missing gold paint on yours pictured and I noticed it on some at Target tonight too. Poor workmanship there.

A for effort. C- for result to me.

For me the wheels were too "yellow"? I think. I did get the 58 Vette & 68 Road Runner

Definately needs a wheel and tire swap. The tops of the doors look too high, making the side window area smaller. However, in this scale I have to say it's the best looking TA avaiable, unless someone knows of a better looking one. Just whish it had side mirrors. Greenlights are non-existant in my area so I need to put an add in the sale section.

believe it or not, the hood and nose are almost dead on. i compared this car to a few pics of a 1:1 car. it really isn't that far off as i had also thought. it looked flat and short to me too but after having it in my hands to do a comparison, i stand corrected. maybe when you see this car in a different color other than black, you might change your mind.

i think the main issue that throws this car off to looking thin is the area between the front of the door to the rear of the front wheel opening. the ground effect piece should flare back down instead of staying on the same pitch. this is the biggest issue with this car IMO along with the gold paint on the wheels. i am not very happy with the quality of the wheels. the hubs were also gold but that was nothing a sharpie couldn't fix. :) as for the part where the gold is missing, that is a really big disappointment by greenlight. there are many many other manufacturers out there who offer their stuff much cheaper and they don't seem to put out wheels looking as crappy as these turned out. for the record, i have two of these and the wheels on that one look just as crappy.

Just wish it had side mirrors.

That's a big miss, too. Not very realistic without them.

I honestly thought that they did a great job. The tail spoiler might be off a smigen, but it serves the car well. I'm currently on the lookout for more of them.

Honestly, I guess I just don't see the criticism on this one. Granted, I don't have one yet, but it looks like a beautiful casting to me.

I don't know Mike, maybe it's the lack of mirrors and all of the wheels being off, but it turned me off quite a bit. Your pics make a great case though, nice work.

Nice work with the pix!
I'm still seeing the problems with it and a couple other things now.
No one thing is mojorly off but they all kinda add up.
The more I compare with the pix, the more problem areas I see.

I look forward to getting a couple of these.

Pewter02WS6, did you paint your centercaps black or did you purchase this one like that? I've noticed the pictures on the net that portray this car had no black centercaps.

Another thing about the color black, it shortens and makes things look smaller/shorter/thinner. One reason women like wearing black. I think when it comes out in white and possibly other colors it will look much better.

I'm looking forward to their 89 TTA Pace car. Anyway, I think they did a great representaion of car not easily found in any diecast. My guess is that eventually they may put side mirrors on.

My opinion, yours may vary.

The ground effects between the wheels are off, not large enough. Plus I thought these were like spray painted instead of dipped in a jar of paint! The paint is awefuly thick looking. The door handles are almost non-existent!

hi chris, i just touched them up with a sharpie. when i set a finer sharpie, i plan to to the whole cap and lugs. i just couldn't stand seeing the whole wheel gold. i might even try to touch up between the spokes by making that area black as well.

the ground effects are good until they reach the front of the door. i don't think it would look as bad if it pitched back down as it runs from the front of the door to the rear of the front wheel opening. this the only area where the ground effects need attention IMO.

as for the paint being thick. i am with you on this one too. it is way too thick but only in certain areas. i haven't opened my other one to compare but it looks like this one got a bit more spray than it should have on the passenger side.

I bought the Firebird yesterday at Target. Mine has a big hunk of something under the paint on one edge of the hood and the hood is tricky to open due to its tight fit. The tight fit of the hood has caused a bit of paint to come off of the hoods front edge. Although not a perfect car, I still like it for its general shape and does a good enough job at representing that model year in my collection. I'll be buying another one too, hopefully it won't have the paint glop on the hoods edge, which is my biggest complaint.

I got one the other day. I really like the casting, but I think they should've came up with a way to keep the front axle and wheels from sliding back and forth side to side. The camaro too.

Yeah. I just checked mine too and the wheels do have a lot of side to side play. They should have put little spacer pieces on the axle to prevent that movement.

How much were the cars priced at?
I just got the two police Chargers from MCG 5, at my Target today, they rang up for $2.99 each! :D

well i just returned from target and picked one up.i wasnt planning on it since im a 70s firebird fan.but it looks decent, atleast from in store looking.havent gone over it with a fine tooth yet)

and to pricing the speeds were 3.99.
the MCG5 were 2.99.
i bought all the MCG5s they had besides the chargers and kcars.

Ah no! MCG s&C R5 is on clearance already? I still haven't found half the set. i need all four mustangs and both roadrunners. If they're being cleared out, i guess no more will be coming in and I'll have to pay premium prices for these 6. I think from now on I'll just buy complete sets from OLDs and get it over with. :(

I like the casting. there are obvious QC issues with the example on this thread we are all looking at but the casting itself is really not too bad.

Man I hope the hype/newness of this casting wears off quick. I reallly want one but I'm not spending $100+ for one.

i passed one up a $75 BIN & $5 shipping. i was going to snag it but i have other things higher up on my want list at the current time. i am also beginning to wonder if the price will begin to drop on this one sometime soon. i didn't think this would be the most sought after green from this series but this car is going for 4 times the amount than every other green from this release minus the pinks camaro. even the camaro is selling for about 1/2 less than the trans am. :freak:

CTWLSMIKE

Well the Trans Am is the new highly desired casting, and the pinks, well they are in the eyes of the beholder. I am a camaro fan too and I don't think I'd keep the pinks GM if I had one. Just not my style....

Ok, I caved in and bought one yesterday. Even more distressing, I bought it at another store and actually paid full retail - yuck!

Some thoughts - as I opened it up, the rear wing went flying. Not sure how they had it in there, but it's not glued from what I can see. It was the last one at Target, so I guess I'll have to keep it.

The rims look 100% better after taking a black Sharpie to the center cap, as I've seen done elsewhere. It matches the picture that comes with the card & IMHO, adds a lot to the look of the car.

The proportions of the car seem ok to me, but then again, this was really not my favorite car so hard for me to tell.

Engine bay was very impressive, once I could pry the hood opened. I had just about given up when I finally got it.

The main thing I didn't like was the under-carraige of the car. They really skimped on this.

All in all, not a bad car for the money. Wish the rear spoiler would stay on, but otherwise, I'm ok with it.

I finally bought one, too. My rear spoiler didn't come off, and until I read your comment, I didn't realize how flimsy it really is. As long as the car stays stationary, I guess it looks OK, but you can see a gap between the spoiler and the trunk lid, and that's not too genuine.

I didn't try the sharpie trick on the hubs, but I should, as it's necessary!

I can't figure out how to get the hood open on mine, is there a hood release somewhere I can't find? :D

I'm not a big critic of the under-carriages of cars, as I don't really look at them too often and don't really care to.

I still say A for effort, but may be willing to bump the C- for results up to maybe a C or C+.

Not trying to flame the whole effort or company, as I truly appreciate both! I'm just giving my opinion. Your results may vary.
