Well, I tried looking on the search feature but it doesn't play well with my computer. I've seen WD 40 as well as windex mentioned. I have something old that belonged to my brother, it's from the 70's, it resembles an eraser but is harder, he used it to rub the rails. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Today I used baby wipes and you know they actually worked well. (we have a 2 year old so they're readily available). Is there any other good methods out there for plastic track? Thanks, Dave

Dave,

The eraser is a good idea but, the one you have sounds old and hard. I suggest going to a local Hobby Store and picking up a new one. Either in the HO slot car section or if they don't have any there check the train section as that is were I find mine.

Also they sell the blue liquid track cleaner in bottles in the train section but, have been told that Windex is the same thing.

If you have really old and dirty track? Then would use Simple Green cleaner as that is what I used to clean all my old Eldon 1/32 track from the 60s and 70s (can get it in any store that deals in cleaning products pretty much). Just get a clean towel and wipe away...well scub, scrub.....you may even use one of those green kitchen scratch pads if you got lots of tough dirt.

Hope you get things cleaned up soon and get to race some cars! A track needs to be kept clean to work well....some times a quick run of a Tomy or Tyco faster car can remove light buildup.

Ooooh and her is my last tip. Get a short stick of wood or something (not very big) and wrap Masking tape around it...and around...and around several times but, upside down with the sticky side up. This is what I use to clean off my tires as there always picking up dust and dirt.

Just roll the tires over the tape to clean them. Then just peel back and throw away top layer of tape when it starts looking all black and dirty. Clean them as many times as you need to and your cars will thank you. The cleaner you keep your track the less you will need to do this. Dust falls all the time....so, you will always need to clean your tires each time you race.

That sounds like a good idea. It's not an actual eraser, but resembles one. Thanks for the input. Dave. The track is good enough to race on, just sfew slow spots, I carefully used 220 grit sand paper on the bad spots, and that helped a lot. Have fun
