ok, I know how to get my final drive ratio, but what does that mean? Or how could even knowing the final drive ratio even help me?

When you find the final ratio that is best for your chassis/driving style for a peticular track (lots of trial and error) keep notes. When you return or find a track similar you know what will work. Even if you change tires you will need to adjust your gearing to get back to Your perfect final ratio. Not everyone will be at the same ratio, tires and setup make all the difference. If you make your car handle better your final ratio will need to be adjusted also. Fun aint it ...

Keep notes for everything and do little adjustments

If you run foam tires the tire wear will change the size of your tires hens
changing your gearing and rollout.

Also, setup which may effect your vehicles handling after a few qualifiers.

I use a computer program to aid my setup, gearing, tire wear, etc.
Helps me be more consistant with setup.

Just take good notes and use the right formulas and your set.
