I just received a ebay purchase today: Nuthin' special, just an old T-jet XKE and a Sting Ray. Neither of the cars ran.

Well, they arrived just at the beginning if my lunch, so I went down the basement with the two cars.... I spent the next half hour disassembling, inspecting, cleaning, and oiling. The only items I replaced were the extremely worn brushes and the rock hard rear tires with not-quite-so-hard nos t-jet rear tires : - )

When I was done, I had two neat little runners. What fun! I felt like I was 10 again!

God, I LOVE this hobby!

Very nice. Two of my favorites.

I also won some cars from an online auction. It was sight unseen. There was an older Tyco set and what was described as 9 complete cars and 5 cars for parts. The auction ended on Christmas day. It became my best Christmas present in a long time. The cars turned out to be:
2 brand new lifelike stock cars - very fast
2 red white and blue tyco superbirds with wings in tact
1 white tycopro chapparall??
1 white tycopro vw van
2 tyco jeeps
1 blue aurora vette like the white one pictured
1 blue tyco superbird with half of the wing missing
1 tyco pontiac Richard Petty stock car
1 tycopro Pinto drag car
2 glow in the dark tyco vettes.

Needless to say no one saw much of me on Christmas or since. I am not a big tyco guy but I was amused with this collection.

The whole score was worth it for that tycopro VW hippie van. Ive seen that thing go for well over $100.

I'm hoping to begin rebuilding my empire with t-jets and other pancake motored cars. I'm not going to be looking for collectors stuff, more than likely old junk yards since spare parts are always needed. But just runners as well, many of those coming to race with me will be newbies that I hope to hook into the hobby. Vettes, Jags...yep, those will look great coming out of the corkscrew this summer to be sure...

I can't say that I'm a t-jet guy by any way shape or means but I do agree in one sense whole heartedly. One thing I absolutely LOVE doing is tearing a non-working car apart, cleaning it out, and making it run like a little madman. To me it makes this hobby just totally worth it. Even if the only people I can tell this stuff to are other slotcar infected people. :)

Cheers,
Xence

A few weeks ago, I was at a local train shop, and was digging through their box of old die cast junk. I found the below body: A white Aurora T-jet Cobra. It is complete, except for one of the small rear bumperettes is gone. The best part : $3.00!!

Last night I dug her out, and started looking for a proper chassis: I found a bare solid rivet chassis in the spare parts box and started building. In no time, I had an all-original running chassis. It was cleaned and oiled, and runs like a champ. I popper the body on, and below is the result.

Man, that was fun!!
