Chassis flex will halp a car turn more, and help tp make it more efficient. It seems most companies have gone to alot of flex to help the chassis be more efficient for the brushless stuff... It has various silva parts, and a HD brushless battery tray.. I made individual side slots into one large slot through the middle for center flex. I made the front cutouts larger to allow for front side to side flex. I plan on doing a bit more, to see how it works.. This chassis plate is one of my older ones, so i am going to use it for testing.. I also slotted the front screws to allow lead like the silva kits.. I have had many cars over the years, but never really went with the Ae stuff.. I had been struggling with a Pro 3 for the first few weeks of the year. I decided to go back to my roots and hit a simple car with minimal adjustments. I like this cause it makes you work with what you have instead of making adjustments you dont need.. Needless to say i am back in the game with the new cars.. Kat are you refering to a new Silva car? I had heard that one of the other brothers is now in charge of the Silva line< and was working on some new ideas... http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/500/medium/l41.JPG http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/500/medium/l44.JPG http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/500/medium/front_l4.JPG http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/500/medium/l4_side_flex.JPG charger01 01-11-2008, 09:41 AM Burbs, that is a nice looking car! Keep us posted on how things work out. Porksalot4L 01-11-2008, 05:22 PM thats very interesting to see. my friend has a L4 and maybe he will want to try those cutouts on it. thanks for the idea t4mania 02-11-2008, 07:46 AM Come on man, is there a new L5 coming or not. I know they are getting ready to release a new 1/12 car but haven't heard anything about a 1/10 car. Thinking of getting a new 1/10 pan car and don't want to buy an L4 and then have a L5 come out a few months later. J-Dub Racing 02-11-2008, 08:36 AM No L5 any time soon. Have you run the Gen 2 yet that you have been working on? Diff Dude 02-11-2008, 10:49 AM Burbs, Nice job on you L4. You are going to like what you did to it. You are correct in calling the L4 a workhorse. I have run many different oval cars and went back to the L4 and ran the best. For everyones information the new IRS Shock Wave uses all the same bolt holes as a L4. You will be able to buy just a few graphite pieces and use the majority of your L4 parts to upgrade the car. Our chassis will allow you to adjust the front end width and lead or trail the right side if you want. It also gives you some t-plate options. Regards, Dave Irrgang charger01 02-11-2008, 12:14 PM I am an l4 guy, but will be going to the IRS chassis as soon as it is available. Looks like one heck of a machine! t4mania 02-12-2008, 09:31 AM Hey Joel, FINALLY finished the KSG as most of the overtime at work is over and had the time to do it. Had it out in the street and it ran pretty well considering the surface. Haven't had it on carpet yet, waiting for somewhere fairly close to do it. Had some trouble with the front end build and still not sure I got it exactly right but eventually I'll find out when I can get it on the carpet. Would love to go to Greenville or Easley but they're long trips and I'm not a kid anymore like you guys lol. Good to hear from you man! Tornado_Racing 02-12-2008, 04:08 PM i think you guys might get a 10L5 in 2008 I hear the same thing...............10L5 Solid Chassis Kit. F-T-Z-I-G 02-13-2008, 05:37 PM I will try and support this thread as much as possible in regards to L4 questions etc.... Zig Kevin Koback 02-13-2008, 07:49 PM I will try and support this thread as much as possible in regards to L4 questions etc.... Zig How about posting your 4-cell mod setup which dominated the 'birds in 2007, that should be a good baseline setup for everyone?! Hope retirement is treating you well! I think that I lost the setup sheet from 2007..... DK: Whats going on? How have you been? bluelineracer 02-18-2008, 12:03 PM Kevin: Lets just call it a break. Your phone is dialed BTW. Dusty F-T-Z-I-G 02-19-2008, 11:32 AM Great...hope to see ya racing again soon. Your phone is dialed BTW. Dusty Thanks Dusty your isnt bad either.. I had a good time in Florida with you. Zig RYR28 02-21-2008, 03:45 PM I will try and support this thread as much as possible in regards to L4 questions etc.... Zig Hi Zig....Can you post the proper center and side shock lengths for an L4. Thanks, Chris F-T-Z-I-G 02-22-2008, 12:03 PM Chris: Depending on what rear chassis brace you are using the lengths will vary. Typically the way that I set side shock length is I measure the distance between the body of the shock and the spring retainer, attach the side shocks on the car with no springs attached and make sure that when the pod is in the neutral position that the shocks are in the middle of their travel. I dont have any shocks to give you an actual dimension. For center shock length I set the length based on how much pod droop I want to run. If you have any questions just let me know. Hays Jr 03-09-2008, 11:38 PM Ran my L4 for the first time this past weekend and ran 1 lap better than my fastest run ever at the Triclone and faster than the track record in 10.5! The car drove awesome all day and everything I changed on it was noticable and changed the laptimes, car got better and better as the day went on and traction came up. Only added parts were silva tray and tray extender, and ksg center shock mount. Everything else was out of the box. This car isnt just a "good beginner car" that was apparent after the first battery pack. It is as competetive as any car on the market and I think needs some more recognition! $235-240 + silva tray and tray extender and you have a car thats as good as anything out there. Car is as simple as can be with no useless adjustments. Thanks to Zig for a few pointers. Now I gotta try to get a 2nd together for 13.5 at the Pittsburgh BRL race. jbm38 03-09-2008, 11:42 PM See ya in Pittsburgh Jr, Thanks for the vinyl came out nice. Hays Jr 03-09-2008, 11:44 PM John, Glad you liked them, those colors look good together!. See you Friday night. t4mania 03-11-2008, 11:32 AM Hays Jr, did you use the stock AE parts for the front end and rear end or did you use any other silva parts on the car. Car sounds awesome! Hays Jr 03-11-2008, 08:21 PM Greg, I didnt have time to build the new front end so I pulled it off my other car, but I used the stock associated castor blocks (4561) instead of the IRS that came with and 1/8" axles, those were the only extras, and the 4561's are only $3.50 a set. On the rear I ran the stock .075" t-plate that came with and used 2 screws. Only extras were KSG center shock mount I had and silva tray/extender. The thing I love about it is the car is so simple. Porksalot4L 03-11-2008, 09:52 PM sounds like this older car is just as fast and just as good as any of the newer cars! in the right hands anyways. nice job Hays! swtour 03-12-2008, 01:01 AM Hays, What kind of "Factory" tricks were you able to do to this car? I know in the right hands - these can be very competitive, especially if someone knows what to do to them... Hays Jr 03-12-2008, 02:42 AM Joe, Honestly nothing, since I didnt have time to build the new frontend/shocks I just took all the stuff off my Gen 2. Only thing I would consider "goofy" was I put the 10deg castor blocks on the front. Everything else was straight forward and what I had been running, I didnt have to chop or cut anything, and no special parts. I honestly was surprised how it ran considering I just took the stuff off my other car and threw it down. The real test will be how it runs this next weekend in PA. Joe I, Are you going to the BRL race? t4mania 03-12-2008, 04:36 AM Hays Jr, sounds like you found a gold mine. Knew associated cars were good but didn't think it ran as well as some of the newer designed cars. Obviously they do! Thanks for the info, you got me thinking now you devil!! charger01 03-12-2008, 09:32 AM The L4 is one of the best designs out there. At my local track, everyone runs ksg, hyperdrive, etc, and someone comes in with an old L4 and dusts them! Kind of funny because people around here kind of look down on them! F-T-Z-I-G 03-12-2008, 09:48 AM Hays: Thanks for promoting the AE product.. your chassis should be at your place 10:30 AM today. I actually found a chassis here in the machine shop that just came up this AM. If you have any questions give me a call. I am headed to NC in the AM. Bill Johnson 03-12-2008, 06:14 PM sounds like this older car is just as fast and just as good as any of the newer cars! in the right hands anyways. nice job Hays! The L4 (Set-up just as Bland as Hays') ran very close/good to the "Rocket" at the Marshall's Cabin Fever 10.5 race Joe..... The same L4 is going to beat the "Rocket" in the NEOT Marshall's race with it's 3rd run on it....:D marlborochippy 03-13-2008, 10:45 PM Was wondering if people run with the tplate brace/stiffener. or due you take it off? are you still using the factory .075 tplate? Just curios im working on getting my l4 dialed in and starting to consider softening the t-plate. are track is kind of bumpy right by the corner entrence. charger01 03-14-2008, 08:41 AM I still run the stiffener with a regular associated t-plate and have no trouble. Dpreston 03-14-2008, 05:32 PM Hays or Bill can one of you send me the set up your running on the L4? I had a brand new roller laying around so I cleaned it up through a KSG center shock mount,Silva tray and extender, and irs pod plates on it. I built the front end with 0 deg blocks will that be ok? I will be running the car on asphalt. Bill Johnson 03-15-2008, 09:32 AM I run the stiffener In all cars, even my CW's...I had a discussion with a very well know racer, an in fact the screws that mount the T-Plate do flex....Plus, I was to lazy to put a shim in for the center stand off..... I have a .063 associated T-Plate in this car..... DPreston, I'll send you a set-up.....I still owe you the set-ups for the CW I sold you to.... What you have in your L4 is fine, The stock 4561 Blocks are what alot of people run... Hays Jr 03-18-2008, 11:12 PM L4 ran good again last weekend at the BRL in 13.5, ended up 2nd behind that Hanson feller. Car got faster and faster every round. We should have a few kits back in stock real soon. DPreston I sent you a PM marlborochippy 03-19-2008, 01:17 AM I was wondering if anyone has any advice on tires. I am running a l4 with a ksg tray and silva extender. Running in 10.5 with windtunnel spec packs using a truck body. THe car is hooked great for the first 3 mins but the last minute i run out of grip. THe back end just comes around. letting the traction compund soak seems to help. This lead me to think i need to soften tires am I on the right path? If so what should i go to it has white and gray white bsr rears. MIKE VALENTINE 03-19-2008, 08:28 AM marlborochippy, try pik rears. They have the same grip as whaites but don't wear as fast. If the traction doesn't last the entire four minutes, your sliding the rear tires, across the racing surface causing the traction compoind to give out, or using crappy traction compound. How long are you letting it sit before wiping off, also are you using the same traction as the rest of the guys racing? DrtRcrM87 03-19-2008, 08:30 AM MC,I've run into the same problem with losing the rear.Clean them with Simple Green first, then sauce the tires up a day or 2 ahead of raceday.Raceday sauce as normal, and let them soak as long as you can before you wipe 'em down.I've used ZipGrip2,seems to work well.Hope this helps. charger01 03-19-2008, 11:11 AM Does anyone have some news on the phantom L5? marlborochippy 03-19-2008, 11:38 AM Thanks valnentine. Yea im using the same compound on this as everyone else and my other spec truck wich has no issue. I use jack the gripper, only thing legal at our track. LEtting sit about 20 mins now on this truck now to get it soft enough. let sitt longer and longer each race saw the differnce 20 mins is the best grip so far. F-T-Z-I-G 03-19-2008, 11:48 AM Does anyone have some news on the phantom L5? There are only a handful in existence (< 6) and I have not heard any news on production. ovalguy1 03-20-2008, 11:25 AM I've drove one!!!!!!!!!! That is the only thing holding back an L4 in my opinion. ovalguy1 03-20-2008, 11:30 AM Here is two of them.... Bill Johnson 03-20-2008, 06:24 PM If there is an L5 coming our way, I wonder if the pod will have a little more motor room. That is the only thing holding back an L4 in my opinion. Never had a "Motor Room" Problem....And that's with running 13.5, 10.5 and Mod.... They do have Extended pod Plates, or Offset Ride Height Carriers, but don't like the way the cars react with a "Longer Pod" set-up... (GH, Ferret or Me....). Had a good time last weekend.. I will see you around.. ovalguy1 03-21-2008, 02:33 PM i drove g honeys at trd one day for a few laps...
