And now my last Green light cars. I am at a loss for words to discribe the junk I got. I bought 2 corvettes #'s 3585(C5 police car) and 4371(pace car). One has hood that opens one doesn't yet same car????
Now the good parts:

Both roll like crap, reminds me of the old ertl 1/64th's
The pace car has speckle overspray on the whole car and several large blobs of white touch up that disgust me.
The police car has lots of fresh chips right out of the package. wonderful. And alot of sliver spoltches in the headlights too.

Both felt very light and at first i thought they were all plastic. What are they using, aircraft aluminum now???

My overall opinion.......

1) It's all hype about GM's and limited run.
2) JL has quality beat hands down. You can 'feel' the difference.
3) a serial # does not make me happy if all I get is a serialized crappy diecast. keep the # and fix your quality probs.
4) I won't be buying any more. I walked out of TRU with what I thought was 2 new(but expencive) cars....... 10 dollars and change later, I am disappointed I spent my money like that.
Sorry, I gotta be honest about this.

That's great you're being honest. Never opologize for that.
I'm not the biggest GL fan either but I've bought a few realy nice models from GL.
But you gotta be selective the best you can by examining through the blisters to try an identify the grummy models.
Give them another chance, they've made great ones in the past and they will again.

Sorry to hear about the qc problems. I have a complete set of the Corvettes I have not opened yet. I can not see any issues through the packaging. I know all mfg. have issues, and have heard of GL issues before but I dont think they can be condemned from 1 purchase. It is your call though, spend your $ where it makes you happy.
Good luck with future purchases.

it seems like the quality of the first two MCG releases was much better than the later releases. to be honest, it seems like the quality is going in the wrong direction. i have been fortunate to get cars without any or very minor issues but i have passed on a few with some major issues. i certainly don't expect have cars with quality issues not slip through the system but it appears that it is happening more often lately. it even seems like they are doing poor touch up jobs just to push them out the door.

greenlight came here and addressed their quality issues awhile back and assured us that they are addressing the issue but it appears that they were just telling us what we wanter to hear. a few new series came out since then it the quality appears to be getting worse. someone posted a pic of a corvette that had paint issues and a cracked windshield. i could see a paint flaw slip by but how could QC miss a cracked windshield? i will still continue to buy greenlights but i am skeptical of ordering them online as i won't know the quality of the cars i will be getting until it is too late. :(

Viperdave : You should take those cars back & exchange them .. I did that with a lousy Hot Wheels G Machine I bought . Are the Vettes more expensive than reg Greenlights ? 2 shouldnt of cost over $10 ...
I have bought most of the Musclecar sets & have had little in the way of problems . Most are recent cars , & usually the problem is in the tires .. Several have had bad whitewalls or white letters printed on them . The only body issue I found was a purple 71 Charger that had the windshield rivet pressed too hard & left an outie dimple in the roof . Otherwise most problems are very minor ... Not unlike any other 1/64 diecast I have bought ..

Hi Viperdave,

I am truly sorry to hear that you purchased two models that seem to have obvious problems. GreenLight is aware of some quality control issues and we are working on correcting them. Believe me when I say this, we are trying very hard to get the best quality, variety of models and great castings out to all collectors. I just emailed you to hopefully correct this problem and find a solution.

With regard to your points:

1) Green Machines are 2% of all retail release runs in 1/64th scale. There are some promo items that have a higher ratio of green machines but this is up to the customer or store who orders them.

2) I would hope that this limited experience with our items doesn't convince you of bad quality from all GL items. We believe our items stack up very well against items in this price range and even some that cost a little more. We make our items true to scale in 1/64th. So some cars are very light weight and others are very heavy. If you picked up a '63 Chrysler 300 or a '71 Charger, you would notice a great deal of weight difference. Corvettes are small and light by comparison to most muscle cars.

3) The serial numbers are something that our collectors want and ask for. We are trying very hard to address the QC issues so that you can have a great item that does have a serial number. Again, I hope this first experience doesn't ruin your idea of GreenLight.

4) Again, very sorry to hear about this, I just contacted you directly to try and work out a solution.

To everyone else, please do keep the comments coming - they are very helpful to us to help get feedback. We ultimately hope that we don't have to do this as our problems will be fixed - but until then bear with us.

Happy New Years!

- Matt

My opinion as well. The first two releases were awesome.
I was not fond of the latest Corvette series on the whole. The castings were off in my opinion.

Still if I could offer any suggestion to GL it would be to get rid of those aweful custom paint jobs. Some of them rival the JL SF's in ugliness and seem to be the ones sitting on pegs. The initial customs and the green Mustang CS are examples of nicely done cusotms in my opinion.

One thing that I have found that I like about Greenlights is the paint. When a greenlight car and a Johnny Lightning car collide, the paint on the lightning car usually chips, but hardly ever does on the greenlight. This observation is from light impacts, like rolling the cars into each other on a tabletop. Now please, dont ask me how I know this

OK, I found an email from a guy named matt today. I was not expecting that. He offered to replace the cars and asked if I wanted anything to make it right. Well, that was real nice of him to offer so I decieded to just keep the cars and wait till I see another G.L. I MUST have and at that time I will give them a second chance and buy it. If the quality is good, I buy more. If not good, I buy no more. This reminds me of the early days at PM when they would do what ever it took to keep ya coming back for more.

So, thanks to Matt for his suprise offer but I'm just going to hold on to them.

Happy New Year guys. PLEASE be safe and don't chance drinking and driving, it's just not worth it.

hey, goin back to the orig. post here... I was gonna compliment GL on the new Corvette series...well most of them... I really like the realistic width tires on the newer model Vettes, couple of the older ones (I know the 79) had those giant width 4x4 looking tires... at least just put them on the rear!

That's my most annoying thing about GL...those giant width tires

also the no side mirror thing... how come Shelby collectibles can do it?

also, here's a pic of old Muscle machine series, when they were Funline still...
unbelievable detail on this... proportion is correct, SIDE MIRRORS, even a radio antenna and inside rollcage detail, white lettered tires and even brake rotors visible thru OPEN SPOKE WHEELS ..the tires are the correct size, it is a racing car...and all the correct tiny little stickers

... I believe even another toy company had a hand in these, I'm thinking a Japanese company called Tamiya (?)

...oh and all this for, when they were on the pegs... $2.99 to 3.99, depending on where u bought them

I just don't see how side mirrors makes or breaks a good diecast model in 1/64th scale.

I agree with your thought. Side mirrors? There are bigger issues at hand......

You sure can't get the JGTC cars for that price now.
I agree that they are nice diecast but they did have their own faults. They rolled terrible, baseplates had no detail, and hoods did not open.

Pablo,

Yes, these were Tamiya's, and you can still buy them under the Tamiya name (ebay or Hobby Link Japan - www.hlj.com). In fact, MM only released 2 colors for each of the 6 castings, but there are several more colors available for these 6 castings as well.

You may also want to check out Kyosho that makes the same cars, but the Kyosho castings are NOT as nicely detailed as the Tamiya ones.

To GL,
And lastly, yes, if there is anything about GL that is a problem it is those excessively W-I-D-E tires.... wouldn't they save money in materials by narrowing them, thereby making them appear more realistic?

I have seen them at $3.89 or $3.99 at every store I went to.
