I am constantly have trouble rebuilding my side shocks. I have associated shocks. I polish the shafts, and on each rebuild , the norm, replace the o-rings and foam. I have read a handful of articles, associated manual, etc, and still to no real good results. Also , does the I.R.S., Silva rebuild kits foam and o-rings have the same dimensions ? Any help would be appreciated....Bobby :freak:

I'm not certain about the interchanging of rebuild kits. If I had to guess I would say you could. I probably have and not even known it.
Here's a link to an older thread about rebuilding side shocks. Lot's of good answers to your question from some guys that know about it.

I would like to know if you are using the stock associated shock ends the kind that you have to snap in or if you are using the screw in ends. If you are not using the screw in shock bodies and ends I woulod suggest switching much less maitance and easier rebuild. my 2cents
Yea the Silva rebuilds fit the AE shafts.

There was an article on rcoval.com (I beleive it's part of the chassis building article) which goes into polishing both the shock shaft and inside of shock body. The outside can be done if you want a polished look with the standard aluminum shocks. The ones made by IRS Top Gun Shocks, Silva HPS, CRC are less prone to leakage - the IRS seem to last longer before needing a rebuild. The first batches of IRS shocks the piston seemed to large for shock body, but by lightly polishing and deburring it, the fit was much smoother. The only problem is trying to get the rebuild (feel) the same with each shock I build or rebuild.
