All,

I know this has been discussed on occasion on past threads, but I came across a piece today that really disappointed me. I finally began opening a few of my Corvette Collection pieces for display, but stopped after #2. This little black Z06, #4475, must have been built at 4:45 on a friday. First, the hood appears to have had a golf ball bounce off of it, and then off of the windshield which cracked it:

Second, the right front fender appears to have met a shopping cart (sorry the pic is a little blurry)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/franklin2700/rightfront.jpg

And last, a big chip is missing from the rear end, and though it is hard to see in the picture, the left rear tire does not touch the ground when the other three do (the left front and right rear are the only two tires constantly on the ground)

Now I realize that this 1:64th model is not quite the same as the one down the street at the Chevy dealer... but this is FAR FROM the quality I saw in the first MCG release! What gives here?

Bummer! Well the first GL I bought was essentially perfect, but the next had a bubble on the edge of the hood that turned into a nasty chip. It's not any worse than JL though.

Maybe this is a new "previously owned vehicle" series :freak:. At least it wasn't a GM in that condition. I know when you pay $4 for a car you don't want to see that occur and I'm sure GL doesn't like it to happen either. I know it will make me take a closer look at the detail before buying. Sorry about your disappointment.

I understand the disappointment as I have experienced similar instances. At the price point of these cars and other lines I have seen flaws in, one would expect better QC. I don't expect the cars to all be perfect, but what I do expect is that the cars with this many obvious flaws not make it to market. In my experience, I've returned the car (even opened) and have been able to swap it for a better quality car. :)

Nice parts car you got there  - Bummer!!!

I wanted to but the new pretty little yellow top-down '62 Vette I saw today
but when the windshield frame looked even worse that in Russ's's pix.....
it just looks horrible! Good thought though - hopefully 'Ol Mac will make things right once he gets settled in.

You would be hard pressed to convince me that the quality has not dropped since the first release. I do believe that it will come back up, after all it's part of the growing pains. But I have all released and opened to this date, and the quality has been in a steady decline.

I still think this is the future of diecast. I truly feel that GL is the next "Big Dog". But we are having to live through the rough patches.

man, I wonder if somebody at the factory dropped that thing and picked it right back up???

I have a few cars with issues from MCG S&C 3, 4A, and 4B. So far, i have half of release 5 and they're all good, so hopefully the QC has improved.

Does Greenlight use the same factory that JL uses? Or are they being done in separate locations?

Different locations for the most part - although I think they used the same factory for some items.

Almost a year ago (uploaded Jan. 4, 2007) I was bitching about quality while most others thought GL was the second coming:

poor paint job around passanger side headlight:

Silver paint over hood and gobs of silver paint preventing hood from closing:

Look how short the drivers side window looks!!! Way out of proportion.
And on the yellow Stang both headlights are pointed WAY out of whack.

Pix allways show more than you'd normally see.
And some people don't even see what someone else might see - especially with proportional correctness.
But you'd think the factory would at least wanna get it right.
It's not like it costs any more money to do so.

Plus it seems alot of JLs and GLs are getting dropped and chipped at the factory.
We shouldn't have to buy their mistakes - it's not fair to us.

It's particularly frustrating when you order from an OLD and receive crappy-looking examples . . . worse that for the most part we can't see and touch these diecast in stores for either lack of distribution or scalper lock-down.

With the price gouging from JL added to the top of it all it makes me just wanna quit entirely and either stick to slot cars or pick up 1/25 scale modeling again.

Not to be misunderstood, I applaud GL's attempts to add as much detail to the cars as they do. I think its fantastic how the little touches like chrome window treatments and factory spec paint / wheels really make the GL product stand out from its competition. I only hope that this extra attention to detail doesn't wipe out the quality I came to appreciate from MCG I (long before the retail releases sent collectors/ dealers / scalpers / hoarders into a GL frenzy). Keep up the good work GL, but don't forget about the quality either!

Long Story Short: GL is a New Company with Great Ideas that is still growing and wants input and will improve. My vote is with GL :) I am sure this feedback will be used by GL to help them catalog QC issues which they will bring up with their manufacturer in China. My sense is that many of the issues raised have already been noted and addressed and will be less evident in future releases. Happy New Year.

Yes, I agree. And looking at some of the upcoming releases, and now that Mac Regan is on board, it does look like things will only get better.

Well said DrDeal.

I too have had some issues with the quality of some of the product I bought from them, But in the end have settled down and learn to appreciate what they have produced for everyone, along with all the new excitement they have brought to the table over the past year.

Perfect... NO but they do listen and visit these board's, Im sure all the feedback is noted.

Everyone has to know, With mass production stuff happen's.. http://www.diecastlive.com/v2007/images/smiles/dunno.gif
