I picked up a china 3500 watt generator at a garage sale. The guy bought it new but he waited till after the warranty was off before he tried it out. Yep, you guessed it. It doesn't work. The engine runs great, but the end of the crank shaft was broken off at the taper where it fits into the gererator. I tried finding a new crank but had no luck. So i mig welded the old one together. It worked for awile but broke again. This generator looks new and i only paid 5.00 bucks for it. It has one of those 6 1/2 H.P. OHV Honda clones on it. Does anybody know who has parts for these engines? Would real Honda parts fit it? Any help would be great.

Most external parts interchange with Honda, But I'm not sure about internal parts. I haven't had to go inside one yet.
You can contact this place; http://www.wildfiremotors.com/ , We are a dealer of their scooters and generators. Scroll down to "Parts" they show a 3500 crank for 67 bux, The side cover gasket should be the same as Honda.
Good Luck

M and D mower on the web has parts for the clone engines, but I could not find a listing for the crankshaft. You might drop them an email, maybe they can get one for you.
I believe Honda parts will fit this engine, but the clone parts should be less expensive.
Good Luck...

If the crank was broken off on the end like that, it could possibly indicate that the unit was dropped hard at some point. I'd say stop with $5 into it and buy a new branded unit if you need one. We've had a few Coleman units already since we became a warranty location, where the main bolt that holds the rotor on is slightly bent and the person ran it until it finally wore the copper down and shorted the whole thing out. I mean really, if it's got crank damage, no telling what else is already wrong with it, or is going to go wrong with it. You wouldn't want an expensive thing like a fridge plugged into it if it goes.

I was on M&D's website. They had everything listed for this engine BUT the crank. I'll check-out the other sites tommyj3 and Restrorob suggested. newz7151, i don't think it was dropped. I think the factory torqued the bolt too tight and the very end where the threads are snapped off. There's nothing else wrong with this generator. It was working perfectly after i welded the crank. If i can fix this thing for 45 or 50 bucks, i think it's worth it even if it is chinese. If any of you guys run across anything else, let me know. Thanks for the help you guys.

I am cheap - engineering too. Can you reweld it but drill a deeper hole in crank and install longer grade 8 bolt to reinforce the weld? Check the run out too with dial indicator the crank broke for some misalingment reason maybe.
