View Full Version : What The.......!!!
Lummox 12-26-2007, 04:26 PM Anybody see pix of the Speed Channel Road Runner and split bumper Camaro?
Get a load of them front rims.
Maybe it's just the pix but they look freakin horendous to me.
They look like those cheap @$$ Wall Mart plastic hub caps.
And the windshield frame on the top down '62 'Vette??? WAY too rounded looking.
Other than the serious lack of variety, I've been pretty impressed with GL.
But now's not the time for them to be slipping up!
- Thoughts anyone??? -

GeraldE61 12-26-2007, 04:30 PM They could be pre-production pictures, they do put them up so we can get some advanced pics.
plankowner 12-26-2007, 08:24 PM I just looked at the pictures Russ posted and the first thought I had was "What happened to the front wheels on the Camaro?" But overall, I'm liking the car selection, especially the GTO.
Lummox 12-26-2007, 09:59 PM Yeah, those are the pix I was going by.
LIGHTNING44 12-27-2007, 01:04 AM I dont know about the gto, but whats wrong with the camaro? Its a DRAG car. Its not supposed to be stock. I like them

I think they are actual pictures done by Russ.

It's the Camaro and the Road Runner.
My complaint is not that they don't look stock, I know it's obviously a drag car.
My complaint is that they don't look like drag wheels!!!
They look like some lame @$$ aluminum rim from a '98 Saturn!
You wouln't see rims like those on the 1/1s now or back in the day.
Not now - not ever!
It would be like putting Cragar SS's on some late model tuner thingy.

I noticed that as well. They cheated on making them look like drag cars and made the front wheels smaller instead of making the rear one's bigger? :freak: At least that's how they looked to me in the pics i saw and am not very impressed! :( Hopefully they look better in person but am still up in air on weather or not i'll be buying any.

Sorta, or more so- I'd say the back wheels (the ones they use for everything)are too big anyway!
That's why they work as slicks !
Atencio 12-29-2007, 01:55 AM The problem to me is that the front tires look like low profiles. The front rims look fine to me, like 15 x 3.5 being as how they look almost flush. Rear tires look fine.
Moparnutty 12-29-2007, 02:41 AM Everybody is talking about the front tires, but I haven't seen anyone say anything (until now) about GL not putting outside rear view mirrors on any of their cars.

Name me one 1/64th scale diecast company that does today. Racing Champions did some cars with rear view mirrors. IMO they did nothing to enhance the looks of the model. They don't put radio aerials on them either but no one is complaining.
Everybody is talking about the front tires, but I haven't seen anyone say anything (until now) about GL not putting outside rear view mirrors on any of their cars.
The reason for this is simple. The wheels and tires make up half the look of the car. If the wheels and tires don't fit the car or look off-scale, they stick out like a sore thumb. Something like rear view mirrors, although they would be nice, are not anywhere near as noticeable at this scale.
I also wish GL would pay a little more attention to the scale (mostly the width) of their wheels. However, I'm going to give them a lot of credit for creating some beautifully styled wheels... the mopar wheels on the 'cudas are a great example of this.
I think we should also take note of the wheels on some of the later model diecasts they have done. For example, take a look at the Shelby GT500 from th Barret Jackson series. Those wheels look accurate and the scale looks appropriate. Hopefully this trend will continue. I don't see why it shouldn't considering we have seen GL make many changes and bring us new products based on our feedback.
I'm all for criticism... god knows I dish it out enough. Lets just try to keep it constructive.
morrowss 12-29-2007, 11:08 AM I have the camaro in front of me and i think it looks good.Alot of drag cars use different style rims or smaller in back for drag racing.

just my opinion......I would of liked them to match in style...
Lummox 12-29-2007, 02:24 PM It's not that they don't match the rear - of course many drag car wheels don't match.
It's the particular STYLE of that rim that looks '94 Nissan Sentra rim.
And I agree with Antencio about the profile of the tire being too low.
It is in fact too low for a drag vehicle of that type imo.
Inciteful 12-29-2007, 06:34 PM Well the front wheels & rims are from the C6 Vette's. I don't mind the way they look actually. They look like actual drag cars complete with slicks in the rear.
Lummox 12-30-2007, 12:17 AM Saw the Plymouth at TRu today. The front runners don't look like anything I've ever seen on a drag car.
The rear slicks appear to be new for GL. Those look excellent!

Racing Champions did a terrible job with side mirrors, u are right...
But take a look at the 1/64th scale Shelby Collectibles Mustangs...I think every one of them has side mirrors and they look awesome! all the other diecast 1/64ths look bare and toy-like next to the Shelbys... oh, and by the way, they also have opening doors, as well as openg hoods... for the same ..or less.. price
Lummox 12-31-2007, 11:36 PM If JLs looked bare and toy like, they wouldn't in my collection. I ain't buyin' it.
Some look horrible, but I don't buy those ones.
My 1:1 '62 Plymouth Belvedere came stock with NO side-view mirrors.
Don't get me wrong, Shelby Collectibles are great....if you happen to only collect Fords...scratch that...only Mustangs and Cobras.
Atencio 01-01-2008, 05:17 AM I don't like side mirrors. I think on a scale that small they detract the lines of the car
