Hi pca53!
Definitely some good guys here, but they are mainly HO guys. There is about a half dozen of us that run 1/32 slots here and the numbers keep dwindling. SCI actually has a large population of 1/32 slot racers that love helping with questions like this. Its not that there is no place for a question like this here, its just the HO guys really have no experience with 1/32 to reply.
As for this car, one of the HO guys, Pete, came over to the "darkside" and raced 1/32 for a while and owned the Red Bull version of this car.
If you are racing with magnets, your biggest upgrade will be getting a new bar magnet that has a bit more attraction to the track you race on. Take a look around as there are various ones on the market. In addition, you can swap the tires out for some Ortmans or Super Grips to get some nice sticky tires on those wheels. Aside from that, those cars are pretty well setup. You could put a higher RPM motor, but then you will need to change the gearing and find the right gearing for that car. And you run the chance of over motoring the car. Maybe not....especially if you do the motor upgrade at the same time that you do the bar magnet upgrade. There are several things you can play around with on these cars so just figure out what you would like to start with first and go from there.
Have fun and again, welcome!

pca53 12-29-2007, 11:42 AM do you know of any fly cars that are easy to ad upgrades to and are fast out of the box
do you know of any fly cars that are easy to ad upgrades to and are fast out of the box
Fly cars, to me, are a bit unique. There is a series called the "racing" series that are already upgraded - they have the racing motors, light lexan bodies, racing gearing, bearings, etc. They are a bit more in price, but its a kind of "more bang for the buck" setup. Then you have the other Fly's which, for the most part, usually need lots of help, not just in upgrades but in setting up. These Fly's have typically ranged in having to do things like remove the wheels and true up the wheels (rims) in order to get them round. Other things have been correct guides, etc. All of this BEFORE you upgrade the car. And then there are the Do-It-Yourself, build kits that are cheap, but, allow you to build the car, catching the imperfection to clean those up, and then they also allow you to do your motor, gearing, bearing, and all other upgrades while building - low initial purchase cost allowing you to buy the upgrades you want oh, and in some cases, paint the body how you want too.
Right now, I own three Fly's that I think are fast out of the box - the FLY Racing Touring Car 06 Alfa Romeo 156, the FLY GT Racing 02 R Saleen, and the Porsche 911 GT1 98 Racing EVO 3. And of those, I really like the Porsche! But notice how each of them have the word "Racing" in the title of the car. If you look for that or the jewel cases that have the red bases instead of the black, you should be getting a nice Racing Series car from FLY.
Hope that helps!

pca53 12-30-2007, 12:08 PM what does the one with the blue cases mean?
do you have this one Lola B98/10 LMP-R black test car? if so is it fast

Well, in looking it up, it looks like its another racing setup as it has the fast motor and a 30% lighter body too. Never seen nor bought any of the blue case ones, but according to what the specifications are, it looks like a race setup car too. At least in two areas - motor and body.

pca53 12-31-2007, 06:37 PM ok thank also for the Porsche 911 GT1 98 Racing EVO 3 wat upgrades are for that car
ok thank also for the Porsche 911 GT1 98 Racing EVO 3 wat upgrades are for that car
Ah yes! This is one of my favorites, since its one of the ones I listed that I own. That car is equipped! It has a FLY high performance blue racing motor (22,000 RPM EVO2 High Torque), specially made adjustable suspension chassis, brass and polymer crown gear (27 tooth) which uses a set screw like the Slot.It crown gears to lock onto the axle, 10 tooth brass pinion, set screw aluminum wheels front and rear with an allen wrench included for easy removal and adjustment, and the lightweight racing body.
There are not many things you would want to upgrade except for maybe the tires and if you wanted a faster motor than the EVO2.
Mine is the Martini racing colors on a flat black car - I love the way that car looks!
Have fun!

pca53 01-01-2008, 05:41 PM did you put a magnet on it?
did you put a magnet on it?
Actually, no. I run without magnets on my cars because the local wood track I go race at does not do a magnet class - all magnetless. But I still think the car would perform just as well with the magnet in too - anything that hooks up without a magnet is definitely just as good with the magnet in. The magnet just helps with keeping the car in the slot.
Hope that helps!

pca53 01-05-2008, 05:57 PM is there a place to put the magnet tho a couple magnets
is there a place to put the magnet tho a couple magnets
Not a couple, but at least one. I just pulled the body off of mine and if you look on the motor pod (where the motor is resting/sitting in) - just in front of the motor where the wire leads are soldered into the motor, you will notice two rectangular holes and on either side of them what looks like "clips". The single bar magnet would go there for this car.
That appears to be the only place for a magnet. Aside from that, the hole where the car was screwed down to the base MIGHT be used for a singl round magnet, but you may have to fit the hole or the magnet to make it work. Gluing it in may work too. That may be the only way to get more than one. But the car is setup for one bar magnet as I described above.
If you can't find what I'm describing, let me know and I'll snap some pics and post it up for you.
Hope that helps ya out!

Hey,
Sorry about that.....kind of got tied up with work and will be actually out of town the rest of the week....hopefully these help.
Take a look at both pics. See the pic that I took from the bottom of the car? See those two small, parallel, rectangular openings by the motor - just in front of the motor to be exact? If you flip the car over to the top, you will see a place that a bar magnet can go where it cover those to openings - take a look at the other picture from the top side where you can see the motor. The leads for the motor kind of cover it up in the top side pic, but right below that, where the rectnagular holes are is the area I was describing before.
The other thought was using that round hole just in front of the motor pod - this is where the car was attached to the base. Not sure you can find a round magnet that fits that hole, but that would at least give you another place to place a magnet.
Hope these pics help you out! I'll try to check back in later this week, if not tomorrow morning.

thanks so much
You are welcome! Just hope that helped you locating the place for your bar magnet or even potentially a round one.
Have fun!
