I have an Ariens 910018 snowblower with a tecumseh HM80 on it. It really bogs down under a load, more so than it should. Even taking a small bit of snow will cause the rpms to go way down. I have changed the belt because it was worn and at least now it is running.

It seems like only extreme adjustments of the screws do anything. I can adjust the speed control screw with 3 or 4 turns and it wont do anything at all. 5th one might kill the engine and it will kick off. This is the same with the idle screw. the preset says 1 turn, but it needs to be out maybe 3 turns for it to run without the choke on. I still can not adjust it to keep higher rpms under load. Any thoughts?

Is your fuel fresh?

Old fuel can cause these type of run problems with an engine, otherwise I think it may be time to tear down the carburetor and clean it out real good, and install a rebuild kit.

Good Luck...

it's running lean & your richening it up to keep it running. you either have a split fuel line, air leak, clog or it's time for a new fuel filter.

I am wondering... Under the load the rpms drop and stay constant, they dont seek or anything. I am wondering if this could be an issue with the governor? Thoughts please and a way to test it.

You can try checking the governor adjustment, But as far as you have the carb adjusters cranked out still sounds like a carb issue.

Shown is a vertical but the horizontal adjustment is the same.
