View Full Version : Visited a local collector today.....
SMS88 12-21-2007, 12:40 PM ......who has decided to sell off his Lesneys (about 40 boxed rw plus most other rw castings in c7 -near mint) at book value to focus on 1/43 vintage.
I have taken some pix of his earliest boxed items - the 20 is maroon (same shade as the 53 Mercedes 220SE) with gold rad & twin tanks in a superb box.

These 2 are also very nice all around - does anybody notice any especially rare boxes?

I wonder how high this would go if he put it on ebay  (with a driver fitted from a beater first!)

I bought a few items including this odd no 3 Bedford box - he had a mint truck in a better box but this empty box is clearly a 1960s Bedford dealer promo ´ Get (in all cases) a quote today on a Bedford, Denmark´s best selling truck, from Bulow GM´ and now my c9.5 Bedford has an appropriate home :woohoo: . the advert is a thin paper label very carefully fitted to one side of the box exactly the way a real matchbox was decorated.......

Lummox 12-21-2007, 12:52 PM Neat stuff! Especially that dealer promo!
My brother has that red whl Jag - I've lusted after it for decades!
karl-e 12-21-2007, 01:29 PM Well, my good man! The box for the Bedford tipper is totally ruined, so why on earth did you buy that one :drunk:
Just kiddin' :) Very interesting, I was not aware that Matchbox models was used for promotion here in Denmark, I have never seen that one before
If you ever want to part with it.................. :freak:
The other models looks great also, but nothing too rare, besides the red wheeledd Jag.

Lummox 12-21-2007, 06:12 PM None of you Matchbox Masters can guess the rare box???
Come on now!:D

Here are the cars that I bought from him along with that promo box.The Cresta is in fair condition for $14 and the others all came from his beater box. The silver baseplate issue of the 75 Ferrari is the rarest of the green rw issues and the car is in c8 shape so I will be pleased to keep it :) The SF site hut truck has 2 rubs to the paint and the edge of the front bumper but otherwise is superb - it was in the beater box because it wasnt a valuable rw apparently! The sugar truck still has 2/3 of its paint but more important the back panel with crown is in nice shape to transplant to my better example missing the back! All in all along with the store bought super Evil twin t-hunt and some common mainlines a good diecast warmup for christmas
Lummox 12-22-2007, 12:55 PM I'd be more than happy just to find that 60 Site Truck around here!
Ahh cain't fahn nuff'n !i! ;(
The Moutain 12-26-2007, 06:09 PM that is a nice group and they are going back into circulation :)
the silver base ferrari is a good pickup.

That box is not known to Karl E here who is one of the Danish matchbox mafia, and I know at least one retired local Copenhagen collector who I will meet at a toyfair on the last sunday in January who can tell me if it is known to him and if there are any others about - there is a good chance its one of a few hundred made (Copenhagen wholesaler supplied Bedfords or direct from Lesney I wonder?) and perhaps the sole survivor
60sMetal 12-27-2007, 03:02 PM Very nice scores SMS88!! Any chance you can take another pic of the trailer from #48? I acquired one from the auctions that was kind of bent up and wanted to see what it should look like. Thanks!

Yes if its not sold next time I visit him which will not be for 2 -4 weeks - the trailer is black and was the only black painted casting in the rw range (Lesney Superfast only had the Japanese issue JPS no 5 Lotus I believe and then after bankruptcy cars like the superb Sunburner appeared in black...)
60sMetal 12-28-2007, 02:14 AM Oh, ok, thanks! I took your initial post to mean that you picked them up! Guess I shoulda read a little better :drunk:
The Moutain 12-30-2007, 04:57 PM very interesting. :)
