In case you guys are still running your OLD style B/L motors, just a heads up that the NEW Novak Motors have a bevelled or angled cut on the mounting side endbell.

This should allow them to fit into some of the tighter cars a little easier...

Cool. Got any pictures? Is there a new part number? Will all of the new Novak motors eventually be coming this way?

I didn't take any pics, but ALL of the most recent motors I saw (21.5, 17.5 and 10.5) all had them

I almost didn't notice it..

My undersatnading is that in the BRL you can not modify the cans or endbells or what every they are call, maybe a modification to the rules would allow the parts to be modified so folks don't have to get NEW motors just to keep up with the most resent improvements.

besides the bevel edge, I herd through the infamous RC grape vine lol that novak is testing a new BL ESC, I guess it has a smaller case than there current GTB, any truth to this?

I had heard the same about LRP also.

As products evolve, it would be understandable...but as we've seen for many years, just because a NEW product is available - it doesn't mean EVERYBODY has to have it.

Just as when a NEW car is produced by FORD, TOYOTA, or GM..EVERYBODY doesn't throw away the car they are driving just because a NEW one is there...

Myself, 3 of my 4 10.5's are the NON-RIBBED cans, 2 of them have the Ribbed Endbell upgrade on them, one of them is the older style motor with the original solder tabs, and one is the 'non-bevelled' endbell Pro Series ribbed can. On the track - I can never tell which is which..as I run (and my son runs) virtually identical lap times with all of them. ( I kept the one OLD STYLE motor around - because it actually fits better in one of my cars)

(I'm still hoping one of the next upgrades will be the removable small harness - so it can be replaced if/when damaged. I get SO close to burning those wires sometimes)

Much of our current testing is for the upcoming release of the 1/18th scale systems. The esc is quite small---even smaller than shown in this picture. (http://www.teamnovak.com/products/brushless/mongoose_micro/index.html)

We redid the HS to make it lower profile, and also decreased the case tub height.

Would this speedo work for 12th scale and 17.5? I know it is for 380 size, but I thought this would be a low stress application.

Can the mongoose speed control handle the current velocity motors, i.e. 21.5 lipo, and 13.5 4 cell.

We haven't completed all of the necessary testing to confirm compatibility with the other Novak BL motors

I totaly understand products will get redisgned reinvented etc, because I am a MFG myself and do it aswell but I think most will agree that they would like to see a smaller BL esc, the GTB has a fairly large footprint then other BL esc's but they are the leading or most used esc besides the lrp and that even has a similar footprint. Would be nice to use a smaller bl esc.

Maybe you guy can help. My speedo burned up two 13.5 motors this past weekend and novak is impossible to contact. any ideas?
I want to send them back and the speedo to have them fixed or repaired or replaced.
I was just running laps and the motors burned up. For no reason.

What makes you think the speedo burned up your motors? This is very odd. I have seen motors burn up due to overgearing or when bearings are bad. I've seen motors burn up speedos when the motor wires made contact with each other or a piece of carbon fiber on the chassis.

Novak is very helpful. Just call them they will help. You'll have to wait until the West coast wakes up though with the 3 hour time difference.

Nothing happens "For No Reason"

Give more details if you have them - maybe somebody here can help with ideas.

For instance: One of our racers had a problem at our velodrome race. Partway into the race the car would shut off, and he would find the POSITIVE WIRE @ the Battery kept coming unsoldered from the banana type connector used for his LIPO battery.

Nobody at the track had any idea that day (I didn't know about it until later) Some blamed the motor, some blamed the ESC. I told him to look closer at WHERE the failure was.

Turns out he was using a 3.5mm plug on his wire in a 4.0mm hole. The loose fit of the connector created way too much resistance under load, and caused enough heat to melt the solder.

WIRE CONNECTIONS cause more issues than actual product failures, but alot of products get blamed falsely.

Kat , I figured just using "Ribbed" as the first word would TEASE enough people.

About the new motor enbell.

Does endbell have deeper ribs besides being beveled? I would think making the ribs deeper on both ends of the motor could help in the heat department.

trailranger,

They didn't appear any deeper, just the bevelled endbell (I didn't open these packages, they were awarded to the 2007 SWTour Series Champions)

SWtour, that seems like a let down. I was expecting something the endbells of the Orion Revolution motors or similar. I am sure it will be an improvement over the current design with some better heat dissapation and reduced mass.

Another thing I have not noticed but really epected is after market parts for the Novak motors. By now I was hoping for a smaller company with a CNC machine to make after-market heatsinks and uber rotors.

I saw what happened the one motor was brand new with a low roleout and the other ran fine the week before same roleout.
