Here is what we do.............

Make a trip to the local Hobby/Train or Craft store. Way in the back where they have the Evergreen plastic, sheet stock, brass tubing etc. You'll also find an aluminum tube (lighter then Brass) that is an exact fit for 99% of the Aurora Tjet screw posts (yes, some of them are slightly larger/smaller then others). Cut a piece to the desired length, test fit, then smear remaining post with super glue, pressing the aluminum tube down over the post. This works great as preventive sleeve to guard against future cracks, splits etc. as well as for currently cracked or chunked missing screw post pieces,. It also provides a nice "mold" to replace/recast/lengthen a post using 5 minute epoxy…..just mix and fill in the tube (I always run a tooth pic in and out of the hole to make sure no air bubbles are present). Drill/Tap once epoxy has hardened to desired screw length/size.

Hi Mike,

Post a pic please. The technique is different for the various types of carnage. Blowouts, chinked, or split...it all depends.

Mike Vitale's book, Aurora Slot Car Restoration is a good primer. That's how I got started.

Sorta depends on the car too. If you want a seamless, color matched, repair; drop me a line and we can work it out. I've got most colors in stock.

Check my run on thread, "Side Work" and "Vent Post Repair" for a rough sampling of the technique.

SCJ's technique is very good, but my take is that it kind of depends on what you want to do with the car. I have had a car or two with chunks missing that I wanted to restore to "stock". Ditto Dr Bill, the repair master: you can trim out a section and replace it, and have a car with a post that looks original and smooth up close.

If I have a runner (no racing unfortunately) or custom, that metal post looks good, especially on some cars where the front post shows prominently, like a Willys, a Dune Buggy, or a Mustang. Kind of like a chromed valve cover or something...
