View Full Version : '67 Redline Attic Find!
Lummox 12-18-2007, 12:23 AM Got this at a flea market 10 or 15 years ago. Just dug it out after all this time.
This this is so nice! Dead frikkin mint!!!
It actually says '67 on the car and on the card.
My 3 other Beatnik Bandits all say 1968 on the bases.
Any idea what this might be worth? I might wanna trade it for a Matchbox of a similar vintage/value.

STUTZ 12-18-2007, 01:11 AM It's nice when you find an old treasure like this one isn't it Dave?
WTG!
PWSchuh 12-18-2007, 07:56 AM Wow. That's very sharp. I would just search the completed auctions on epay to get an estimate.
Reddwarf2 12-18-2007, 08:46 AM Alot of the Hong Kong Cars from the first 16 will say 1967 on the base. That is common. The US cars will more often say 1968.
A ver nice car on a very nice card, unpunched too. Smokin find! :dude:
Check the back of the card and see if it lists the PYTHON as A PYTHON or a CHEETAH?
cih1979 12-18-2007, 11:49 AM :D  :woohoo:  so so jealous, friggin SWEET
Lummox 12-18-2007, 02:13 PM Thanks all !
The card says Python on the back.
This and my other 3 Beatniks say 1967 and USA on them.
That's a good idea - I'll check e-pay.
Reddwarf2 12-18-2007, 07:04 PM Thanks all !

I don't want to burst any bubbles here but....
Sorry, that car is a Hong Kong Beatnik Bandit.
The python on the back of the card shows it as a late run car. It is a very nice car and has a modest value to it.
Lummox 12-18-2007, 07:14 PM It was made late '67?
Edit: woops! yup, you're right! I don't know why I thought it said USA on this one!
But I double checked and it does say '67. So it can be a late run car even
though it says '67 because they used the same base through '68 I assume, right?
Are the USA ones worth more or sumpin?
My other 3 does say '67 on them, 2 of which are near mint.
I'm not even gonna tell ya what I paid for these back then - it would proably hurt you too much! :p
Thank you for your info, I apprieciate it!

Yes it should say 67. For some reason the Hong Kong cars came out with this date. and the US cars were all dated 1968. Why? That's a good question and hopefully sombody will answer it.
The early run first 16. That is the ones that hit the shelves first depicted the Python car as the Cheetah car. That was the first name for the Python. Due to copyright it was changed to Python.
Your car is a very nice car don't think twice about that. The US version has a different motor and wheels. It also will have a clear bubble. Typically HK cars all have the Blue "glass" and a sharper redline wheel. (best way I can describe that difference) They will also have the legendary four slots in the base.
Think of it as the run to meet the demand of the cars because they were popular!! :woohoo:

Yeah it would hurt me
Lummox 12-18-2007, 08:16 PM I just checked e-pay - I thought stuph like this was going for wwwaaayy more.
One that I saw that was similar had not closed yet but was only at about $30.
It's actually a nice surprise - I hate to see this stuff become unoptainable.
I know I didn't pay more than 5 bucks for this though. (I HAD to tell ya!:D)
SMS88 12-21-2007, 12:12 PM Very nice ! i would be pleased to own any MOC first issue redlines on an affordable card.A purple one sold for just over $60 MOC a few weeks ago on ebay UK
Pablodragon 12-21-2007, 08:54 PM just curious, is this still considered, quote "dead frikkin mint!" with the big ole price tag and magic marker "50" on the card?
Lummox 12-21-2007, 09:49 PM You're right. It's crap. Thanks for pointing out this awfull flaw. How stupid could I be thinking this was mint!
I promply ripped open the package and threw it in the garbage.
Upon inspecting the opened car I found some of the chrome missing from one
of the wheels were it rubbed on the package - on the side you couln't see.
So obviously the car is no good either. I'll either toss it in the trash or use it
for practicing painting.
I am forever greatfull to you Pablod raggon'! It this kind of selflessness willingness to help and great attitude that hopefully will help me focused on
collecting TRUE mint pieces.
budsvtec 12-21-2007, 10:09 PM noooooooooooo......................Dont throw it out :-(
lightningsquid 12-22-2007, 01:22 PM Dont throw it out! Might still make a decent custom. Maybe if you sent it to that squirrel guy and he added enough rust to it............
FastC6Vette 12-22-2007, 10:28 PM I checked completed auctions on eBay and did not see any MOC green ones. However, the others such as blue brought $40-60.
Lummox 12-23-2007, 01:18 AM Thank you FC6V.

No man, I was just kidding. I'm a sardonic old b@$t@rd, huh? :p
I think it's realy silly that it might not be considered "mint" just 'cause it has the price on it.
Of couse it's got a price on it - that's what stores did back then for chrissake!
But whatever...I seriously doubt it would stop me from paying a fair price for something like this.
Spectraflamed 12-31-2007, 09:20 PM I would guess you would get $50 easy for it
Lummox 01-01-2008, 12:28 AM Thank you Sir!
As long as I trade it for something I like I don't really care what the value is,
but it always fun to know just the same.
Hopefully I'll be doing a deal for MB SF transitional stuff with Mr. Dave Anto.
