I can not remember the last time a saw a metal ( brass)float that sank. Now I repalced 2 in in 1 week. Both on snowblowers with a 8 and 5 HP Tecumseh. The 8 leaked gas when engine shut off out of carb. The 5 leaked gas out of primmer bulb when running. Both engines ran OK in the snow. If you want to check for a float with pin hole in then make sure you check right after the engine ran. If you wait 1-2 hours the gas inside the float evaporates and you will not hear the sloshing when you shake it. New floats -no leaks now sure glad I did not waste my time replacing the needle and seat first. Another problem is plastic floats that bind on the hinge pin. No gas will flow into the carb at times. Hinge pins rust real easy now it seems in NH,but most things in NH rust anyway. Happy Holidays to all.
