In this world of video games and computers it's great to see kids get into slot cars.My two nephews were over last night and since I'd just set my track back up after two years off this was the first time they saw it.The older one (6) is into NASCAR so he was delighted to see my collection of life likes.
Tought him quick skills with the governed kiddie controller then off to the big boy controller for some racing.Kids diggin it big time. Then starts playing the lets try this car thing. The younger one(4) comes in to try now.Give him the kiddie controller and leave the room....for five minutes.
When I come back they've discovered the joy of wall plants. The sound of kids laughing insanely over killing my collection.I got mad for a second then flashed back to childhood of doing the same thing for hours day after day.
Well the boys are coming over again tonight and uncle Joe's collection will be greatly reduced.
Well thought I'd share I'm sure many of have been though this and would get a laugh.

Just do yourself a huge favor and get a Tyco power pack; it will plug right into the track. Many guys will have them for next to nothing. Do not waste your money on batteries.

I believe this is proof that people ultimately want more interaction than video games can provide. I enjoy a good game myself but it just doesn't compare with "hands on" activities/hobbies.

This is the reason traditional toys like Hot Wheels, Barbie dolls, trains, building blocks, etc. will never disappear. The hobby of slot cars is a "niche toy" if you will. It's hard for a kid to discover on their own. They usually have to be introduced to it.

After I came back to the hobby ('99) and started getting some interest from my nephews, I started picking up as many LL or TYCOS from wherever reasonably possible. This way, I could stock up on runners and donors for their continued racing and wallplanting enjoyment. Plus at that time, LL and TYCO were relatively cheap and I sure as heck didn't want the kids experiencing the thrill of flight with my Aurora TJets and AfXes form days gone by. So now when the little ones come around, I still have quite a few of these fast magnet cars that they can run and enjoy. Good way to save your collection of whichever make(s) you're collecting. :) rr

I've got a nice collection for myself and most of the stuff of the "please don't put that into a wall" or the "don't touch that because it's too expensive" category. After reading ALOT of posts on here I'm truly seeing the wisdom in getting a bunch of runner cars like the LL's. They're fairly durable and run pretty good. I recently won an auction that had 2 of these cars in it. I didn't want the LL's they were just part of the auction that had 1 car in that I wanted. I was planning on just re-selling them on ebay but after seeing/reading all of the things here I've reconsidered. My wife drove them the first day or two after I put the track up and liked them. She is now like "I want my own car." I wouldn't call her a convert but I can see a day in the future where she'll turn more laps on a more consistent basis. So in essence having some disposable 'junkers', if you will, will definitely keep me from pulling the rest of my hairs out.
