Both DKW & Audi, along with Horch & Wanderer, were part of the Auto Union combine formed in the early 1930s.

Post WWII, most of Auto Union's factories found themselves in East Germany. However production recommenced in West Germany in 1950 - DKW being the marque used. In 1958, Mercedes-Benz took control of Auto Union & in 1965, the group was sold on to VW.

At this point, VW took the opportunity to reorganise things. The DKW F102, had been introduced in 1963 - the car was powered by a 3 cylinder two-stroke. It was to be the last DKW as VW had decided to replace it with the Audi marque. The first new Audi was to be based on the bodyshell of the DKW, but, instead of the two-stroke a new 4 cylinder four-strokewas installed.

Interesting models.
My family and I have had tons of old '60s Saabs over the years.
But the early '50s Saabs had those DKW 2-stroke pwer plants in them
